Does the WB rev limiter make a big difference. Is it worth the money?
If you have a motor that pumps out extra HP yeah,,,it's not a must to have and some will say it's not worth having at all. If your just a trail rider and weekend warrior don't get it,, and on a stock bike it ain't gonna help squat....

I jetted it and it seems to hit the stock rev limiter all the time now.
it will always help if you are hitting the rev limiter but i would suggest a bigger front sprocket or a smaller back sprocket because al the 400s ive ridden should have more than enough power to still pull these bigger or smaller sprockets easily

Well that would be the least expensive way to go. should I just go up or down 1 tooth or a couple?
i think you should buy 2 front sprockets one that has one extra tooth and one that has 2 extra teeth and try both see which one you like . i tried a 14 tooth on my 300 before i got my pipe and didnt seem to have the power on low end that it used to but with the pipe it has more than it ever did have. but a 400 should have more than enough power for a 2 tooth larger sprocket

So its better to replace the front ?
no doesnt matter but i just said that because it is probably cheaper because they are smaller than the rear ones

Does it do exactly what the wb rev limiter does? Has anybody ever used the 250 box?
the xr250 box is the same box wb is using. they just put there initials on it and charge you more money. and yes it does make a diff. on i stock bike.

Carl,
where i noticed the most help from the rev limiter is in the hill-climbing department. I think if you do any of that than you should see a little gain.
Im out here at McChord, so where do you ride at?
Next weekend (Labor Day) we are all going down to Sand Lake Oregon. This saturday i think we are going to Capitol Forest.Interested in riding?

DUDE--DON'T GO UP/DOWN 2 TEETH ON THE FRONT SPOKET!
(sorry for the yelling)
A one tooth change on the front sproket WILL make more of a difference than u might expect (with stock rear sproket and tires). Two teeth will be a HUGE difference. Also, one tooth in the front is approximately equal to 3 teeth in the rear. The reason most people change out the front is, adding or subtracting 1 tooth on the front sproket USUALLY does not mean you need to get a new chain to match....whereas changing 3+ teeth on the rear sproket, you will need a new chain or will need to add or subtract links.
Good point raptakilla14...
I was considering a rev box for my 416, as I hit the rev limit very very quickly gear after gear....by going up a tooth on the front, I shouldnt hit the limit as quickly. The rev box kinda scares me, as the 400 motor (valves/springs and such) really cant handle much more rpms than the stock cdi allows. The WB rev box allows well over an additional 1000 rpms, and I think that is too much.

ok, only 1 tooth in front. Got it. Rhand- We are leaving today for Florence for the weekend. It will be my first time in the dunes. Hopefully I wont regret not buying paddles. We also ride in Shelton, Belfair, and at the ORV park in Thurston county.
I am running a stock motor with some air box and pipe mods and I could tell right away that I had to shift sooner because of the rev limiter was cutting in. I could definately use a higher cdi box on mine and I like the idea of a more aggresive timing curve. Where is the best place to pick one up? Do you use a xr 250 ar an xr 400 box? I have seen the gasket for 12$ in the white brothers catalog.:macho

Well if you have a stock bike, i would advise against a rev. limiter. Honda put the stock limiter on there because the motor isn't supposed to rev any higher. I'm sure it would make a difference either way though. Do whatever you want
I read an article in 4 wheel action and Gary Jones a motor builder for White Bros. claims his 416 motors will run all day long with a 1000 rpm higher limit. I was just thinking that an advance of the timing would be a good thing. I ride the woods and almost never run wot any way. except for getting runs for big hills!!
