Clutch on the way out

My clutch is engaging right at the end of the lever travel and the cable is adjusted all the way out. I also noticed that it slips a little in 4th and 5th gear (I was on the pavement). Could I get by with just putting in new springs and friction plates in? Also the clutch lever has a very hard pull. Does a stock 400EX have a relatively light pull or are they stiff?

:( sounds like your cable is stretched. yes the 400 does have a easy pull. get a new cable, and try that should take care of your problem. Honda makes a HRC clutch spring,which is just a bit stiffer. also may want to change your oil also if it has been slipping for a while. :D
