Sounds like you're on the right track, a lot of people run & recommend "BEL-RAY SUPER CLEAN CHAIN LUBE". I myself, run pj1 lube & haven't ever had any problems.

I've been using white lithium, no problems.

I have always been told to use a lube with "teflon" I am not sure what chain wax has in it, but i have been told that works to. You want something the sand wont stick to. I normally get mine really clean, oil it up once with some pj1 i got laying around, and run it in the dunes, some sand sticks to it, but after i rinse my quad off from that day and take it out again without oiling it, it's fine. and my chain still seems to be in good condition!
