Look how close we came to some serious trouble on Feb 16.http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/db?name=2004+AS1

If you can use the Java applet, you can step back the date to mid February and zoom in and out and or tilt the solar axis of the orbits to see a graphical representation of how close this asteroid came to hitting the planet. (12,715,819 km)

The rock is listed at 280-640 meters in diameter.

LOL that wont happen...

the only time you'll hear a PUBLIC announcement about something like this will be before impact. They figure there is no need to panic the public about something that will miss us. Could you imagine the caos if the news around the world said an asteroid was heading for earth and might miss us. :eek:
