I just took my engine apart and replaced a bad 2nd gear and while I had it apart I went ahead and put a wiseco in it. After I got it all back together and started it up, I heard a knocking noise. The noise sounds like its coming from the top end and I checked my valve clearances and they were fine. I checked to make sure the top end was getting oil and it was. The engine runs fine now but it didnt make that noise before the rebuild and it kinda worries me. Do you guys have any suggestions as to what my noise might be and how I can fix it?? Any help is appreciated.

I am going to run 93 octane gas but i havent tried that yet. I dont think that was my problem though b/c its more of a clicking sound than a pinging sound. If it is piston slap, how can I fix that?

When you put the Wiseco piston in it did you have the cylinder bored and honed? If you just took the old piston out and put the new one in without boring/honing the cylinder then that's your problem.

my friends 400 was making the same sound on his and i asked my auto class teacher in out school and his said the sound is your rockers b/c there is space between the rockers and the valves and the valves r coming up and hitting your rockers and thats what the noise is in your top end is

He said he already adjusted his valves. Valves tick, they don't knock. Did you have the piston-to-cylinder clearance checked before you installed the piston?
