Rode my 450R today hate the tall first gear has anybody put on a 13T on front & 39T on rear or is that too much,or should I just go with the 13T only ,I want it to feel like my 400EX on slow tight woods.Because I coul tractor with my EX through some really tight slow stuff.I would just like somebody"s opinion who has rode both bikes like this THANKS Greg.

The 13t sprocket is a little low for my liking. I put the stock one back on and put a 39t on the rear and it is perfect for me.

Ya know what man, I had a 400EX for a couple of years and now a 450R. The biggest thing that I have learned about the stock gearing on the R is to keep the revs up right there in the power band! I put on a 39T sprocket and really didn't feel that much of a noticeable difference. Whatever you feel works for you though.

I was in slow tight woods this weekend for the first time with the 450r. I have 13t front sprocket, and to be honest, I wouldn't mind 39t for the rear, otherwise it did very good with just the 13t front sprocket. I'm going to wait to change the rear, after i do some motor mods. I want to see how it responds with the motor mods before I switch the rear.

If I drop to 18 inch Holeshots on the rear do I still need to change my gearing for MX racing? If so any suggestions?

I just did the calculations, and if you run 18' rear tires, it would be the equivelant of running 13/39 gearing. That should be low enough for mx.

I didnt at first, but now im starting to like this tall first gear...

Ill probably go with a 39t rear sprocket anyway... or maybe a 13t front... ill try them and see what I like best...

With 18 inch rears for MX Mark Bladwin says it is perfect for MX, That is what Farr is running, stock gearing.

Joe joe I think your right Ill go with the 13T first & then if it aint enough Ill go with the 39T in the back after some more mods.I like to tractor up hills & over logs in tight trail situations like my 400EX would hardly had to use the clutch on the EX.
