i've got a problem with my '95 Dakota. it will rev nice and strong in neutral, but when in drive (5-speed) it will only rev to just under 3,000 RPM. then it just cuts out and sputters. my guess is that my fuel pump isnt pumping enough gas, making it cut out when it gets up in the higher RPM's. anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

Did you run it extremely low on gas? If you did it's possible to have picked up some garbage in the bottom of your tank and sucked in into the pump. Somewhere near the throttle body should be a fuel line with a schrader valve (like a bicycle tire valve). With the engine shut off but still having the key turned forward to where all electrical components still run, stick a small screwdriver down in this valve like you're letting air out of a tire. If you've got good fuel pressure gas should squirt about 3 foot in the air. If it just comes out 6"-8" you know you're not getting sufficient fuel pressure.

Fuel pump is where I'd start. If the pump is in the gas tank bail on it and get an electric fuel pump and just cut it inline right after the gas tank

Fuel Pump might be dirty or timing might be messed up....
