Anyone running an aftermarket subframe..?

While stripping the bike down today getting it ready for the powdercoater's, I noticed that my subframe is severly tweaked :( I can't decide if I should replace it with another stocker, or go aftermarket..

Any thoughts welcomed..

I would get an Aftermarket SubFrame. Laeger used to make them but I`m not sure if they still do. I would call Baldwin or Laeger and ask. I wish Houser would make one. The only SubFrame I know of is Lonestar. I haven`t heard much about it, but I really don`t like Lonestar. You should get the Lonestar Leo and you can give us a Report on how it Holds Up and how it`s Built.

leo, walsh makes them too.

I think maybe hermann powersport makes one, too.

best bet is to call people up and start getting prices.....

How much is the Walsh? That would have to be the Best Replacement made.

TMM makes one. ATV sport had a review on one like a year ago.

wasnt someone on here a few days ago talking about making a sub-frame out of aluminum and he was making a jig to bend the metal? if he does decide to make them, im interested...My sub-frame is really bad so i cut the back off and installed a grab bar that looks like crap. later guys

every one I've looked at so far is a bit more than what I'd like to spend..

I'll probably just go with another stocker, or take the porta-power to mine then add some braces :)

You can get another stocker and reinforce it. That would be the cheapest route. The best part about the aftermarket subframes is that it lets you use a 250r grab bar. When mine bends i am going aftermarket.

Also I believe 465stroker made his own subframe and made a grab bar mount that accepted a 250r grab bar. You might want to ask him for measurements to make your own.

how much does a stock subframe cost.

i think laeger powdercoated subrames are around 300, and a chrome one is around 500, if they are even making them still.

I`m not sure if Laeger makes the Subframe for the 400 anymore or not. Nac`s doesn`t sell them anymore. They were 357.50 Powercoated. Just don`t buy a Lonestar one. That TMM one did look nice.

I think most of the LSR proablems are their frames cracking and their 400ex swingarms cracking.

I don`t have anything against Lonestar. I have just Seen and Heard stuff about them I don`t like. Their Frames Cracking and Swingarms Cracking are enough for me to be telling people not to buy Lonestar. I like how the Lonestar stuff looks, but I would never pay $735 for A-Arms when I can get Laeger`s for $575 that I think are better. I guess it`s just my Opinion.

I back you up on this one WarriorMan. i'm not to fond of lonestar products either. i've seen tons of reasons why i wouldn't buy lonestar products...for instance, a friend of mine bough some lonestar racing a arms. after about 4 races, the shock mount was cracked on the lower a arm. Not something you would expect from some $700 a arms.
another instance, another friend of mine bought a chrome swingarm for his 400....it works good except for one thing, there's only two pinch bolts and his chain keep coming loose.
and that's just two instances. i've got more.

I`m Glad they have Held Up for you. I just hate it when people spend all that Money and Something Breaks or Cracks.

I have cracked a 250r swingarm and bent a steering stem. my friend has cracked a frame/swingarm/and tpins!- all the following parts were lonestar.

I know somoene that quotes lonestar being the "huffy" of quads.

I like their stems though.

I got a long story about travis spader and lonestar, but im not getting into it.

i think the story that beerock is tryin to tell is that spader bent axles, cracked swing arms, and cracked frames and didn't harm his hyper tech (sp) rimz(the carbon fiber ones).... i heard the parts he was runnin where lsr and he broke everyone but his rimz stayed straight... am i right beerock

i have had a lonestar subframe on my 400ex for almost 2 years now,,,,,and knock on wood, i have bent it yet. i think i do alot of jumping and put it through some big abuse. i have no complaints about it. i would recomend it to someone else.

QuadRacer041

my 400ex and my R have all lonestar parts on them and i would buy it all again, it all works good for me. after enough abuse anything is going to break i dont care who's name is on it.i dont claim to be spader or farr but i ride almost every week end from spring to fall, i weigh around 230lbs and get some pretty good air and my lonestar stuff holds up awsome.as i said before a;ot people around here talk about a lot of stuff they claim to do, but i only see pics from a few guys, and those few guys that do post pics never seem to brag about.it seems that only the guys who say they've done alot of stuff never seem to have pics of it:rolleyes: how convenient..........
i say lonestar kicks *****

QuadRacer041
