Anyone else thinks the turning radius sucks? Seems like my 400EX turned a lot shorter. I was thinking about grinding the steering stops. I also can't spin it around too easily unless I'm in mud. I could spin the 400 on the road. I wonder if the turning radius has anything to do with that?

Edit.

Does anyone think the 450R feels like the center of gravity is too high?

Yeah it is pretty wide, seemed tighter if you lean in to the turn and work the throttle/clutch to break the rear tires loose.

I think alot has to do with the lighter front end. But i realy dont have a problem with spinning it around, once it starts going your good.

Doug Eichner was saying the same thing about tthe TRX450 he raced with Tim Farr in the Baja 1000. He said that it was hard to power slide around turns and sometimes the bike would loop out on him because he couldn't turn the wheels enough. I hear that Houser has a stearing stem that will fix the problem but it costs over $300 for it.

One of the first things I did was grind down my steering stop so it would turn better.

Yesd it made a huge difference. I did it to my 250R and my friends Z400. It is a big advantage in the tight woods.

How much did you take off the stops? did you grind it off the stem, or from the frame? I was thinking about doing it on the frame piece, I just don't know how much to do,

I think it was like an 8th of an inch maybe a 16th. I am not positive on the amount. I have a friend that works for the Yamaha dealer and he sets up their race bikes and race jet skis. He also makes my bike faster and handle better. He ground down the steering stop on the frame. Then he got some touch up paint that was close to the color and painted it. I just rode it to test it in a tight area and he kept hooking it up.
