I was just wondering about if u could make a 460ex and if so are they reliable and how much would it cost. What all would i need to do that.:macho

several companies used to have 460 big bore not sure how many still do. most of them go to strokeers now. look in this forum for the topic 560 reliability and that should answeer all you questions

I feel that u would be alot bettter going to a strocker also, Im not exactly sure on the messurment but i think a 465 strocker is a 440bore with a 4mm longer throw on the new crank, but i could be wronge.

I do know that mickey dunlop was done alot of work with some huge bores, and im thinking that he said somthing about a 500ex for a pretty reasonable price!!!

i went threw all the threads and i cant find it. But can u tell me a little more about a stroker. And what all do i need. I plan on next time i rebuild my ex id step it up even more:devil: I just feel the need for more speed.lol

OK
460= 440 with 4 mm stroke
463= 425 with 6mm stroke

some companies say use a shorter rods regular pistons. My personal beleifs I think a stock length rod and special piston is a better bet.

MY OPINION.
If you are going to build a motor to have a lot of horse power. you need a stronger rod!!!! If you are splitting the cases and putting a stronger rod in you might as well get a stroker instead of just a big bore. By the time you get to that point the price will be very close. I run a 463 stroker my self in my ex and love it it is set up for woods racing and has tons of low end power with very smooth delivery.

for a stroker you will need
crank stroked
new rod
new piston and rings
and cylinder bored, but maybe not a new sleeve
a cam and all that stuff if you want it. I have a hot cam and some real mild porting done to mine and it ripps.

you should be able to get this done with what ever compresion you want.

Here is the thread Gncc'er was talking about. Either way you go its gonna have more power.

If you already have a 440 and need to rebore then powroll has a +.020 piston at 11.2:1 and runs $220 for the piston, pin, rings, circlips, headgasket and basgasket that can be used to overbore a 440 so don't have to resleeve the cylinder. And for $550 they will stroke your crank 4.0mm with a hd rod that is shorter and can use any standard piston with the kit. Here is the website. http://powroll.com/P_HONDA_TRX400EX.htm

I have a 440 kit in my ex, it has: 4mm stroke, stock length Carrillo rod, custom piston (custom valve reliefs), oversize intake valves, ported/polished head, ceramic coated piston crown, some special coating for the skirt (can't remember what), 8 plate clutch, 39mm FCR (old type without the venting), and DMC exhaust.

I have no Idea what the compression ratio is, but it is the max I can have and still run 92 octane, my engine builder still recommends 50/50 race gas mix though. I never run less than straight turbo blue 110 octane. That way I don't have to worry about jetting. Although I would get a little more power with a lower octane fuel, I'm lazy and don't like to mix my gas!!

Reliability wise, I have 400 miles on it aggressive trail riding, and almost a whole season of ice racing! It's just getting broken in now.

If you want what I got, or need questions answered without getting lies, call John Budnick at B & B Powersports

When my 416 wears out, should i go with a 426/440/ or should i just save a little more and stroke it to a 465, or send off and have mickey dunlop stroke it to a 500???

how muchwould be the 500??

One thing to be aware of with these big motors especially the 500s, and I am not calling out FST's specificly. But I have heard of some Transmission trouble with gears breaking and wearing a lot faster.
almost a full GNCC season on 463 tore it down all gears in great shape still.
