View Full Version : Cant decide 20 or 22 inch rears

I cant decide from either a 20 or a 22 ince rear holeshot. What is the advantage/dissadvantage of having one or the other. Will I loose a lot of top end with a 20 inch over my stock 22? These would be going on my 250ex and I cant change the sprockets either. So I need some help on tire sizes.
thanks

I'd get the 20s. They greatly improve acceleration/lower end without losing much top end speed. We have stock 20" 400EX rears on ours and they work great!

Thanks! I am still worried about loosing some top speed? If you had to gues how much top speed you lost now when your running the 20's how much would it be?
thanks

I dont think you should loose too much on top end. My friend has a set of 22" sure tracs on his recon and they are like the same size as my 20" holeshots. Go for the 20" tires because if you get 22" then you are getting XCTs which are pretty big and heavy tires.

You will lose an inch of ground clearance going to 20' from 22's. I can't even ride the trails in my area with 20's. I changed my tires after my first ride...The gearing difference is about a 1 tooth change on the front sprocket. (use one tooth less on the front with 22 inch tires and you have about the same gearing as with 1 tooth more and 20 inch tires)

Good luck,
Lorrin

Actually, I don't think we lost any top end because the motor can pull high gear better/easier and it just revs out a little more.

I wuold go with the 20's, i mean about how much time when you are riding do you get going full speed. i just about never do unless i in a field or on a road(not that i ride on roads) i would rather have the torque than the top end. Just my thoughts on the subject. Maybe you do different type of riding.

Yea I think ill go with the 20's. The only problem now is that I am gonna loose a inch of ground clearance. And im gonna need that inch. We only ride roads to get to trails. At night we might ride 5 to 15 miles of roads, a little here, a little there. And on the roads me and my friends mojave are always battling to see who can get out in front.
thanks for the thoughts
