I am looking into modding my motor and wat good woods power i have been talking to lrd and powroll they both sugested a 440 kit lrd sugested there bore kit and so did powroll however i think a stroker would make more power for the woods so i am looking into a 416bore 4mm stroked crank to get a 440, go choice or bad? Im going to be running 11 to 1 compresion. And it will be ported and have either a web cam for low end and hardend rockers put in or a xr400 cam, is the web cam anygood? what kind of power should a 440 bore with porting and the cam make compared to a stroker?

Go for the 440 its worth it. I noticed a big difference in the power.

I have a 440 kit in my quad and it is great. When I upgraded from 400 to 440 I noticed a lot more power. I'd say spend a little more money on the 440 instead of the 416. I ride my 440 in the woods a lot and its fine for me.

Definetly go with the stroker 440 Mine has great power and has way better reliability. What kind of piston are you running? Also the web cam is a great choice I have had no problems with mine

A properly setup 440 is the way to go, or if you have extra cash do a 465 stroker

I think thats what im going to do a 416 bore je piston and a 4mm stoker to get 440 displacemnt and 11 to 1 compresion.
Im working with lrd and getting there porting, valve springs, hardened rockers and web cam. And hopefully a hinson basket and 8 plate clucth kit to help get the power to the ground i figure it should be arround 50 rear wheel hp.

I would get the Stroker. The setup you said above sounds very good, and would rip! LRD is also a very good builder!

yeah i think im going to go with that since the reliablity should be pretty much like a 416.

with this 440 what gearing would be good like 16 36? or maybe 16 38? stock size rear just go up 1 on the front

That gearing should work great. My 440 bore motor pulled it just fine.

For you guys with the 440 stroker I have a question. A friend of mine bought a 440 stroker quad off this site and had it shipped out to CA When it is at idle it has a slight grinding / rubbing noise. The guy he bought is from told him it was normal. The crank was rubbing on the side case or something. Was told it would not hurt anything. I may not have that response just right as far as what he was told on the grinding noise. Have you guys ever heard of this. It did not sound right to me. He rode all weekend and it seamed to run OK. As far as power I was not real impressed. I had no problem running with him or past him up the hills at sand mountain with my 416. He does weigh about 40+ pounds more than me though and it was his first time on that quad too. Motor may be tired too. Is there any modifactions needed to the cases when you do the stroker crank?

Thanks

wel with the kit my and lrd are working on the 416 bore with a 4mm stoker crank the cases are fine, but if you put a 6mm or bigger stoker crank in it the cases need to be machined to clear it.

If you get the above mods, I would go with a higher comp piston. Maybe 12.5:1 or 13:1 !;)

if you go that route you better buy you a bunch of head gaskets to keep around and get lots of practice changing them cause you'll need it!! ;):)

If he gets oversize studs to go with it, and the sleeve was properly installed then he should have no problems with the head gasket blowing, sure it might happen here and there but nothing to bad. Micky Dunlap has built countless numbers of four strokes and says he uses 13:1 all the time and still retains great reliability. Most the people blowing head gaskets are either pulling studs or didnt have the sleeve installed properly, or the head is warped, etc... If it is done right it will be fine.

if you get a stailes stell head gasket you will not ever have to buy one againyou can not blow it. But you could get blow by if the head was warped or if you pull a stud. My 463 is over a year old now with a 13-1 compression piston And i have had no head gasket problems
