I cant keep my throttle grip tight. My othe rone is fine, but my throttle grip NEVER stays tight! (I dont have a twist throttle) But I sprayed some brake cleaner stuff on it. Someone told me to do that, and it worked one one, but not the other one. I cant get wirse to work good enough. Any secrets...?

I use clearcoat spray paint on any spray paint will work , you don't need alot, if you spray too much it won't dryand will eat the rubber, then put safety wire around them in a few places at least 3. This is what i do and it works for me. Like i said though if you use to much paint the end of the grip wil break open and you will have colored spots on your fenders. Been there done that!!! hope this helps!:macho

i use hockey stick grip tape on the bar before i mount them using grip glue or weather strip adhesive(thanks to Pappy for introducing me to the weather strip adhesive).

i have yet to have one slip any which way, so much as come off.

Hey dude all you gotta do is get some really thin wire and some wire pliers and put a couple of loops around the grips on each side then twist the ends of the wire together, cut off excess twist and fold over in such a way not to come loose:cool:

Safety wires is the only thing that would hold mine on!;)

might b time for some new grips

grips do stretch... expecially if you put then on and off alot.

and besides , a new set of grips never hurt any one :)

ps: if they are new, get 3m sprayadhesive

Hey Narly R , Hold on tighter, load your quad up and bring it over and I'll put some stuff on it and then we'll wire tie it ....

oh and what brand are they ??

My scott grips were really loose and sliped alot, so i put them on my bike

But the Oneal (i think thats what they are) ones i have are super super tight, they are like3-5mm smaller then the actual bar diameter and they feet really really tight, just spray some adhesive on the bar and they slid on a little easier and stick forever.

I had that problem with my 400ex, but I got new Scott grips. Put a little bit of hairspray in it, then wired it up and it holds strong!

IDK if the hairspray works but I know the wire did a world of difference!

not to sound stupid but did you buy grips for a twist throttle. you can also scuff the bar with sand paper for better adhesion

I had trouble before , found out I put on too much glue and did'nt let it set up long enough, used just enough to cover it and let it setup a few nights.make sure you have Renthal Grips, it says it maynot work with other material's

after a race take ur bike home and dry the grip off and the bar and use grip glue (Renthal grip glue is what we used befor the Albany race) and let it sit for a few days and it should be tight :) hope it work cuse going through the woops with your grips moving with you is a different and very weird experance !!

Ok thanks.

You can try several types of glue, blah, blah, blah. Pound the grips on dry and run safety wire around them and you'll never have problems. I sure don't.

that works great BUT we live in Oergon and they take the bike up in the back of the truck sometimes so the "little water" part would make it a big problem!

Put masking tape on the end of the bars, then put a little lighter fluid, gas, kerosene, whatever in the grip, put your fingers over the holes, shake it & slip it on. It takes a day to dry, but it sticks forever.

I learned this from regripping golf clubs & it's the only way i put grips on now.

I use two face tape but its the same deal.First time ive tried this. I was tired of using wire,so i went to the golf shop and asked how they did it,thats what they told me and even gave me the tape. The best way ive seen yet.they havent moved 1cm.

i dont know the real name for this junk but it has been called gorilla snot.. and its green .. lol but it will dry to anything and it wont come off easy at all.. likeif you ever wanted to permanentaly seal something you would use this junk.. works good... of course it will come off but its not easy... also try takin some 60 grit sand paper and roughin up the bars on the throttle side, if i am correct it wont already be cut like that left side of the bars hope you get your grips to work.. its really scary when your goin wfo open and make a turn in the woods an your grip comes off:eek2:

Has anyone tried these? http://www.odipowersports.com/ATV_Home.htm
seems like a interesting idea, i like Odi grips on my bmx, and if you have a twist throttle you can use the MX ones prolly..
