what would be the best carburetor to buy for a 400ex with the mods listed below? Even personal preferences would be greatly appreciated.

I have no complaints with the FCR 39 You will find allot of people on here run them. With your mods it looks like you are after a low end machine. Stage 1 cam and a 39 rear sprocket.

I felt a better throttle responce and a good pull all the way through the RPM's They are pricey though. 350 +/- used and 425-450 new. If you get a FCR get the adjustable fuel screw it makes it easier to dial her in. ;)

For less coin you may want to get the stock carb bored and worked. 125-175 I here those will also give you a better throttle responce and a better punch through the rpm's over the stock carb. Just depends how much money ya want to spend.

alot of people i know run lectron carbs, and say they really like them. I never really researched particular brands too much. I know edelbrock makes a pumper-style carb, edelbrock is a good name but that really doesnt mean it will run good.

I have an Edelbrock on my 416 with a Hot Cams 2, Sparks advance key, PowerBomb with an eSeries WB pipe.... and I am completely satified with the setup. I am sure that the FCR is a great carb, but I have only ever used the stock and the Edelbrock. The Edelbrock is a huge improvement over stock and a breeze to dial in. No jets to change. All this IMHO.

It will help in the power and throttle responce. Keep checking the for sale section or give C&D a call. That is where I bought mine. (# at top of page)

Yeah, I am wondering the same. Is the 41mm better for the quad if you have a big bore kit?
