Can some one tell me what the pilot jet does and how would you know you need to change it. As you can tell I have no idea. Thanks for the help.

it contorls 1/8 to 1/4 throttle. It is harder to tell if the pilot needs changed over any of the other jets. When you open the throttle steadly from idle to wide open and the engine is a little hesitant at the bottom try putting on the choke a little bit. If this makes it better the pilot is to lean, if it makes it worst the pilot is too rich. It's hard to explain over the net without hearing the engine, but I hope I helped you out.

Thanks, that totally makes sense. I'm ok where I'm at. Is that the black knob that is on the bottom of the carb on the left side?

The black knob is the idle adjuster. The big yellow lever is the choke.

Yeah I know the choke. Just wondering on the black know. Is it idle speed adjustment or idle mixture adjustment?

Its the idle speed adjustment. The idle mixture adjustment (fuel screw) is located on the engine side of the carb at the bottom. It's hard to spot with the carb on the quad but if you look hard enough you will find it. Turn it in to lean the mixture, turn it out to make it richer.
