400 making ticking noises

my 400EX makes like ticking noises when I go at a moderate speed through whoops or when I come down from a dune going kinda fast and the suspension compresses, or it does it when its like lugging up a hill, somone told me that its my valve train and I know its not my valve train cause I can hear that, its a differnt sound. You think its time for a new chain or sprocket? could my sprocket be skipping? my sproket doesnt like its in that bad of condition. please hlep im going duning next weekend and I would like to have it fixed.

I had the same ticking noise I beleive. Try using higher octane, and if your already at 93 add some race gas to the 93. I had carbon built up on the top of my piston and head. I guess that was causing my compression to increase. I hope it works for you.

im already using av gas. should I be using some like VP or somthing?

You need a valve adjustment. If your not too good with tools..don't do it yourself. http://www.exriders.com/techarticles/valves.html

ok now what does adjusting them mean, what do I do to them? I am going to do it myself and I am good with tools and stuff but what happens if I dont adjust them? could that mean potential extreme engine probloms or somthing???

check ur valves or timing chain dont let it click for to long becasue if it is ur timing chain it will bend ur valves.

there is no easy way to tell. i would adjust your valves first and see if that does anything for ya.
