I will soon be getting my Elka triples fronts w/SSD. I have the stock 400 rear shock. Since the front will be lowered, I will also need to lower the rear, so my handling isn't thrown off.

To allow the front and rear to sit even, all I need to do is unscrew some of the preload and stiffen up the compression, right? Is this the best way to do this, or is there another way? Anyone else have the same setup?

Also, an aftermarket rebuild/ new rear shock is not an option

Thanks

get a lowering strut....drops the back end down to be level with the front.

Where can I get one of those? Is that ok to use for MX?

mainly used for TT....but i have used mine for MX as well...its not as great as the zps/ssd rear setup but for cheap it will get the job done.

im not sure who makes them....try ebay...

Also on here a while ago gt thunder came out with a new 400ex rear linkage that dropped the rear end a lil bit.

Another option is to have your stock rear shock converted to SSD. It is not a good idea to unscrew the preload ring to get more sag. Unless you are very light, the shock will be too soft.

The best would be to do what Jeff says. But if money is a issue, look into the lower linkage that GT thunder makes.

Is it possible to buy just an SSD spring for the rear without having to get new springs, or rebuilt?

You have to use the Elka main spring and crossover with the SSD spring.

Ok I think I might do that eventually, but until then, would it be ok for me to stiffen up the compression and unscrew the preload some? I weigh about 165

I wouldn't recommend it.

I think you will be fine just running the stock rear how it is. I ran my stocker with SSD fronts for a while, and had no problems. My friend did the same thing, again no problems. The ride height isn't that much of a difference, at least for mine it wasn't. Instead of adjusting the rear, just make the fronts sit higher!
