to make a 250ex go 60+ mph it will be very very costly. I think you would be better off getting a different quad. besides i don't think it is possible to do that, but just my .02. If anyone else knows for sure, i am sure they will post it

load it in the back of your truck and drive 60mph. its going to cost alot, it is not realy a quad platform for hopping up.

putting mods on a 250ex won't increase top speed, just acceleration. the only way to gain more top speed is bigger rear tires. you could put some 27's on it and maybe hit 60. but then you lose all kinds of acceleration and your friends will still be way way faster than you, and thats if your lucky enough for the little motor to be able to turn those big tires. so basically your not gonna be able to do her. you'll either have to settle for what you have or buy a different machine. sorry man

i don't think u could get it to go 60 for gearing reasons... its not like u can change ur gearing to compensate for the more power in the motor...

like on my 400 when i jumped up to a 406... the power was enouf that i could run a 16t sproket and still pull harder then stock... this also increased the top speed ALOT... a 250ex u can't change sprokets....

HAHAHAHAHA.The best thing to do is to sell it. if u want to get good u cant get very good on a 250ex...get a 400 or a 450.

One thing is if u have a 250ex dont just step up 50ccs get something more bigger. Because i bet u will hate the 300 after a week. Theres not much of a power differece.

My advice is the same as everyone elses. I would try to sell it out right. You should be able to find a heck of a deal on a 400ex. Now that the R is out it seems like they are a dime a dozen. And I don't think you will ever get tired of 400ex. It has endless possibilities. Good luck in what ever you decide!!!!:blah:

The main thing is to have fun!!!!

well my first suggestion would be to trade it. put it in the local trader (the free one, so many more ppl pick it up) and adverise it and at the bottom, dont put a price put TRADE FOR SPORT QUAD in all caps. Thats what I did with my STOCK 02 250ex and traded it for a modded mint 92 LT250R. :D Say it couldnt get any better, I also got $400 on the trade. I got offers to trade for a Blaster, 400ex that 2nd gear chatttered and a 89 Banshee.

Anyway if your stuck with it, the best way to get it going that fast is a race cam from Web Cams. Also shave the head about .30 (very cheap to do), and if your serious about it, get a top end port. Also, the stock tires are a must for highest top speed.

the easiest but most expensive way to do it is to have the gearing changed like on the Rincon 650 that won Baja last year. youll lose a ton of acceleration tho

im sure if you had 50,000 dollars a machine shop and alot of money you could bor it and stroke it to like 325cc make you own gears, farme, arms, shocks, and make a bad arse 250x, but buy taht time you could ahve bought 10 new 400exs

They are a nice starter quad, my son had 1 , good dependable, bulletproof quad, I put a K&N on my son's .it really woke it up, but that's as far as I went suspension is made for motor, if you can get the motor to pull it 60 , suspension will hurt you at high speeds, quad was'nt really built for that, enclosed rearend like a utility, not flaming you, it is a nice quad, but save you money.:)

You could push it out of the back of the truck on the Interstate at 60 and then make people pay to watch. Then with whats left and the cash go and get a bigger bike.

What about adding a tooth to the front and taking off a few from the rear? Thats alot easier than getting 27 in. tires.

roll off a mountian and i guarentee you it will hit 60 easy, then i will hit the ground:D just messin, we clocked a 250ex at 55 mph with no wind and hunched down on the bike but that was absolutly toped out to the peak of its abilitys

The 250EX is shaft drive, which means the gearing is fixed. If you have enough power, then the top speed is determined by two things : gearing, and rev limit. You can't really change the rev limit. Even if you remove the rev limit built into the CDI, you'll still never get your engine to turn at 15,000 rpms.

So what does it all mean? In most quads, if you increase the power significantly, you can change the gearing to increase the top speed. In the 250EX, you can't change the gearing. So even if you give it more power, it can't go any faster because the gearing is fixed, and you hit the rev limit of the engine. Sure, by getting an aftermarket CDI with a different rev limit, you might be able to gain a little in top speed, but not much.

The only way to increase top speed in a shaft drive is to change the internal gearing of the transmission, which would cost you thousands of dollars.

Ya the 250 is shaft. I am a dumb*****

05-04-2004, 02:58 PM
the only way to change gearing is tire size but then ud have to get more upgrades....o wait, this is dave, nvm u should just sell ur quad and not buy another
