nope, unless you wanna change a whole bunch of internals and side case for a cr400. in the end if it all works out its like 1500-2000 to do. I've done some research about the topic.-darren

I thought it was only like 3-400 to replace the side case and the starting gears?

Seems like I remember this coming up about 2-3 years ago, which was researched in depth by some very knowlegable members. I do remember it was major $$ or it just would not work. One of the two.

the kicker would proabably get in the way and its a backwards kick. Also the xr motor has different gear ratios. I might be wrong but doesn't the xr have a quick change cover? I heard that that what is used for quick change cluth covers for the 400ex and they weld the kicker hole up. I was talking to someone a bike shop a friend of mine owned and he said he used a xr cluth cover it was alot cheaper than the hinson one.

the stock ex cases would work. you would need a xr 400 side cover, all the gears, springs, and shafts, the kicker and a xr400 vavle cover so you could have a compresion release.

Ijust looked at a 400ex today and the kick start hole is right where the brake pedal is, you would have the pedal and pegs in the way. I don't think it would work

all hinson does it take a xr400 cover and put there clutch cover on it.

If I can find a couple xr 400 parts I'm going to try it this summer.
It would be nice to have a back up.

It wouldn't be a backup for the E-start, it would replace the E-start.

Ive been wanting a kick start for my 400 i wish they made kits for them so u dont have to modify the whole funking engine. They make a kit for the 300 pretty sure.

I would leave the e-start and just use the kick as back up

I think what he meant is that you can not use the electric start with the kicker installed.

Thats just a guess. I dont know.

What is so bad about e-start.....i have ridden e-start bikes for a while....and have only had one problem....the problem was with our honda foreman and was a quick fix.....and i have still yet to run into a problem with the 400ex e-start.....although i do agree kick is nice for back up....

Ive been having problems with mine for a while now. Its off and on but enough to piss me off. It will crank one minute and then the next it will just click or the neutral light will go out and it wont do nothing. Now the batt. isnt getting chraged I guess.
