Just wondering what the deal with the kick start is? Do you just buy the lever and bolt it on or what? Then I guess you can get rid of the battery and starter? :confused2

no you need to install some gears. and yes you can run both electric and kick

You will also need a hot start lever, $40 or so, I think.

You do NOT need the hot start lever. I have the kicker and that lever is not needed the bike starts just fine cold or hot without it.

Call 877-243-3337 and ask for Bob he can get you everything you ned to install the kicker for less than $250.

And yes you can keep both the kicker and electric starters, but after you see how easy it is to start with the kicker you will be wanting to lose 15lbs REAL fast, by taking the starter, and battery off.

Pahrump, does the cam mod make it harder to kick and how does does compare to a 250R?

No it does not make it any harder to kick.

Compared to a 250R, maybe just a little harder but not much. I have a 14:1 piston and its not too hard to kick, stock it is very easy.

We just installed the kicker and it probably took all of 30 mins. I have the e-start on still, but may just take all of it off...still deciding.....

Do you have to cut the fender like it shows on Yamaha's website, or can you leave it alone and your boot clear it fine?

You need to cut it....I just didn't yet. The quad is up on the stand, no shocks; so I want to wait til it's on the ground.

Oh yeah you gotta cut the fender, I have mine cut not quite to where Yammy says cut it and my boot just clears.

I am about 1 inch below the line on the fender.

It costs allot for a kick started plus you have to degear the camshaft in order to get it to kick and actually start. I put one on my bike and am still doing differint things just to get it to start. Quad Pro racesr who have been kickstarting things their whole life cant even kick start it... Just charge the battery

WTF are you talking about? Everything needed to add the kicker is just over $200 and degree the cam??? Yes it is easier to start after the cam mod but everyone does that anyway.

Its hard to start cause you either don't have it jetted right, don't know how to start a 4-stroke, or both.

Scott...you beat me to it.....lol

Plus, he said you have to DEGEAR the camshaft....not degree it....I don't know what the timing chain will ride on, but oh well, I'm gonna degear the cam shaft pronto....:huh

Jim, get right after "degearing" tht cam and let me know if it helps it start, maybe I will have to do it to mine so it will start on a 1/4 kick instead of a 1/2 kick:huh

Well...it makes sense, once the gear is off the cam, less drag; thus easier starting......:p

Now I'm confused, i thought the electric start on the YFZ was an advantage??? Now it's going to be just as much of a hassle to start as the Honda.

ok i hear that a yzf250 kicklever is better. you dont have to cut the fender. but i did not try it to see if it is true.

It is gonna be a bit better because it is just alittle bit shorter and thinner, meaning it will have a better chance of clearing any pipe and you won't have to cut the plastic as much.

But there is no way you are gonna get away with not having to cut the plastic at all. I tried and it was just too much of a pain in the ***, either my boot was hitting on the way down and scaring the plastic or it was getting stuck under the p[lastic on the way up.
