Does anyone know anything about these cars? I found a 93' that seems to be in great condition, and according to the guy who owns it says it is. The only thing im wheary about is the millage, 170k but he wants less than 2,000 dollars for it. Thats right down my alley:p Any feedback from anyone who has had these cars or knows anything about the reliability etc would be nice. Im going to go look at it Monday night and ill make my desision then, but i wanna know things to look for.

Brother got an '89 new. Just sold it about a month ago. 200+k miles. Solid car. The 4-banger was built by Mazda I think.

I have never heard any real problems about them and as far as I know, they are good cars.

Yeah they are pretty good cars.My buddy has them on and off for about the last 3 years. He had 2 or 3 of the earlier models and a 96gt with a v6 5 speed.

One of them was a 91 with a 4 cylinder 5 speed. It looked like crap.He ran the living crap out of that thing. And it never blew up.He grenaded the 5 speed though.Got another one from a junkyard threw it in and kept running the crap out of it.That car went WAY past redline about 3 times a day atleast.

The 96 was a nice car though. The only thing I didn't like about it was at 70mph it was atlike 3 grand in 5th gear.Wonder what gear ratio that thing has?It didn't get to great of gas mileage because of that. But that thing was pretty quick off the line.It is only car I have seen get up to 110 on this one.And the includes an L98 camaro. And a 71 nova with a built 350.My truck probably could have when I had my 350 in it.But I couldn't get it around the corner at the end of the straight.Plus I don't think I would do it anymore anyway.

I currently own a 97Gt probe and i love it. Do not buy an autmatic, they've been known to have shifting problems. You must realize if u live somewhere where u get large amounts of snow you'll have to get snow tires, the fatties that come on it blow goat balz in snow. Mine is pushing 140k miles and still running strong, i also average around 25mpg on usually drive conditions, but if stay on the highway and off the gas i have gotten around 30 mpg. U can get large amounts of power out of it with a Borla exhuast and a few little mods. Its an all mazda car basically, you can buy parts for it at either a ford or mazda dealer. If you have any questions feel free to ask or cruise over to www.probetalk.com very imformative site on probes.

Make sure you have a compression test done...they are known for bad top ends

Otherwise a good car

no they dont have turbos. the turbo's were the old body style and were turbo'd 4's. those were pretty quick, (did i just say that?) the newer style went to V6's.

It's a Mazda MX-6 with different skin...

northeast400, I had 2 Windstar's (2001 and 2002) with the 3.8's in them. Is this the same motor/tranny combo as in the Taurus's? My van's were company vehicles and I lost transmissions in both of them. Ran OK until about 30,000 miles and they started slipping badly. The dealer said the auto tranny's in the Windstar's were notorious for going bad and he insinuated that it was the same tranny as in the Taurus cars. All I know is that I've had nothing but bad luck with my last 4 Ford vehicles. The only one I never had any trouble with was a 1997 Aerostar with a 3.0L.

I have a 93 ford probe as well. I bought it and it had 212 k on it and it still had the original clutch in it. Thats alot of miles for the original clutch and the car still runs real good for me. I think the deal you are gettin is a very good deal because i bought my probe and have had no problems with it yet and the miles just keep addin up on it too!

Old Probe's did have a turbo 4 cyl. When they went to the new body style (93-whatever) they made the gt with a DOHC V-6.

As for the mechanical problems...I used to have a 93 SE automatic. It was a total piece of crap. The guy that had it before me replaced the transmission at around 60k miles. I also had to trade it in because it went out again. My cousin had a 94 SE and had to replace the engine in it. Shortly thereafter, the transmission went out. I tried to talk him out of buying it but he didnt listen.

It was extremely slow (claimed to have 110 hp which is sorry, but it felt even slower than that). The parts were extremely expensive and hard to find. It is a mix of Ford, Mazda, and Mitsubishi.

My advice, dont buy one..GET A HONDA!
