yeah I'm sure you'll need heavy duty studs, steel flex gasket, and pure race gas I believe. I'm not a pro though...-darren

prolly like anywere from 104 to a 110 straight race gas,and i would def get more heavy duty head studs, etc.

how much do head studs usually cost? and the race gas is not a big deal, i was going to get a 55gal drum no matter what compression i went with, i just figured if im gunna have this much race gas might as well go higher compression.

i know a guy with a 12.5:1 440 that runs on a stock rod and no heads studs and he's had no problems so you should be fine.

tc racin sells head studs for 80 bux. i know i can find them somewhere else alot cheaper

speaking of rod, how much are the carrdillo rods? and is the stock rod gunna be okay with 12.5 i dont wanna destroy my entire motor. when i get it done i want it done right.

there about 200-250 if i remember.. you could get a heavy duty stroker crank and rod for 550

thats more than i intended, i was going to do a basic 416 with the 11:1 comp, Ported, and the TC cam i have in there now. Then i figured i wanted to get race gas, decided to get a 55gal drum, well i relised thats a lot of gas, and if im gunna have that much around, i might as well go with the 12.5:1 compression, unless theres something in the middle? but yea i plan on running strait race gas no matter what the outcome. Then the more im thinking aboiut it, the headstuds are gunna have to be a must, but is that rod a must as well? its obviously cheaper to get the carrillo rod instead of new cases etc. its just i dont have all this money to blow away on my motor.

now that im looking at the price i think i might just stick with the Ported cammed, 416. i really dont wanna lose my reliability either.

if your sending out the motor to get it built to a 416 and stuff. I would get the stronger rod...

ok well you said it your self you showed a picture of a motor destroyed because of the rod... go with the 11.1

11:1 is the limit for the stock rod. Anything more is risky and only a matter of time before you explode your engine.
12.5:1, you should get the carillo rod if you want to do it right. Pressing a rod on a crankshaft is not something you can do yourself. It needs to be done by a professional. Also will need HD studs. That is how it is done right. If you don't want to spend the money on doing it right then stick to 11:1 and save yourself the hassle of buying a rod and HD studs.
