anyone know if a c-dale 440 motor would mount up in a 400ex? I'm just wondering if that would be an inexpensive motor that could really produce some power when mounted on a 400ex? or is there another engine that would be better for a 400ex that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

I suppose that would be a show stopper. What about other engines that would fit in a 400ex frame? I think it was dirt wheels that had a 400ex with a ktm motor in it that looked pretty cool.

I know the crf450 is the hot engine to through into a 400ex, but aren't they pricey? and other than ebay where is the best place to get one?

XR600 is a good motor to use. They are aircooled and you can get them at a resonable price compared to others being they are a little outdated buy their liquid cooled brother. Parts are still readily availible too.

Will a xr600 motor use the stock mounts and fitt under the seat or is there a lot of customizing involved? The problem i see there is racing in my district i believe limits me to 450cc.

Dude, just put the axle and bearing carrier in from the other side. Now the sprockets on the right and the brakes are the left.:huh :huh Just kidding, I would do the 520 ktm in the EX. I have seen 2 520 ktms on e-bay for like 2200 for the whole bike.

but that still excedes the 450cc restriction for d-16 racing. does ktm make a 450 that would be worth while?

what about the yz426, would that work on a 400ex? what sort of modifications would you have to make?

A cdale motor would be a ****** even if it had the chain on the same side. the air intake is in the front of the engine. And the exhaust out the back.

I can't find anything on mounting a ktm motor in a 400ex. anyone have a link or any idea on how to mount a 450 or 520 ktm motor?

As great a motor as is I would not go CRF. No oil tank. I forgot about the older yfz's. If you want look up a yfz400, or 426. They would be cheaper.

I'm going to go through my sponsor http://www.totalperformance-llc.com try and get a 250r motor then have them mount it up. I've read that the 250r worked up right can be very potent in a 400ex chasis. We'll see, i don't know how much it's going to cost yet but they always get me great prices so that may be a forgone conclusion.

That would be the way to go, Ive bought from smooth and he is great to deal with also haresrambles seems good also. If you are going to do a 250r motor than you might as well stick with a 400ex motor (well 440 big bore ir stroker)
