I had the dealer install the HRC kit before I picked up my 450 and they told me that after they installed the kit it's now physically harder to kick than when it was stock. It also has real mechanical rattle sound in the top end that they said the stocker didn't do. They told me it has something to do with the decompression lever (???). It kicks easy enough and has tons of power so I don't feel something is wrong....I never rode it stock and I'm just curious if anyone else has experienced the same things with the HRC kit.

Something doesn't sound right. The decompression mechanism ought to work just as it did when it was totally stock and there should be no abnormal noise. Sounds like they botched something up:(

I can start mine while sitting on the seat with no problem, and no noise. Something isn't right.

They myhave installed it wrong, something sounds fishy there. Get it looked at before a problem occurs !

I would double check the cam install. check if the dots line up.

I rode 450r_riders hrc 450r this weekend and it started just as easy as mine does. Also my motor sounds funny also but I think that's just the way it is there is a thread on here about engine noise someplace...

Does anybody else have a hard time starting theirs when it is cold? I do. When it is warm ,no problem, but cold I kick it 7-8 times. Please share your technique as I'm not new to kick starting, but felling a little dumb.

It may be a little lean on the pilot circuit. Try turning the fuel screw out a half to a full turn.

Thanks,I'll give it a try. Just to clarify,it is not sitting outside in the cold,it is in a heated garage,55-60 degrees all the time. Would you still try the the air screw?

Ya I'd still try it to see what it does. If it doesn't help put it back. Also if you get it started and completely warmed up just adjust it so that it idles the highest. That is where you want your fuel screw at.

Make sure the cam chain is lined up in the tensioner and the guide. I did not have mine lined up and it was real hard to kick. Once I released the tension from the chain, and made sure the chain was routed in the white guide and the black tensioner it kicked fine. That could explain your noise if it is grinding on the guide. Just a suggestion.

I figured it out, believe it or not ,I was trying too hard. I guess I I thought you had to kick it hard like a CR500 or some thing. It appears that if you boot it too hard it don't like that,I don't know. All I do now is,get it thru the hard compression part and simply extend my leg, amazing.

Hey man I see you are in Clarion County, PA. You plan on racing any District 5 events? I take road trips on my streetbike up to Clarion and back--you ever ride at East Brady?

I live about 15 min. from Brady but have never rode there. I have a lot of great riding right from my garage door,so,out of laziness I rarley travel to ride. Of course you are welcome at my place for a ride anytime. To answer your racing question, I might actually hit a mx or 2 this year,as an old racing buddy is getting his 15 yr old son into it. He asked me to join him in the old guy ranks to try and spank some of the kids, lol. If I can get my family involved I'm sure i'll do it.

Well, I finally got my 450 back today from the dealership. The decompression mechanism was bad so they ordered a new one and that solved the problem. It doesn't have the rattle anymore and kicks smooth.

i had a problem at first but i realized you dont have to kick the piss out of it . just a fluent kick seemed to do it for me
