Go for it, but just don't be stupid. 125s have quite a bit of power so I would take it easy until you get the feel for it and just go faster as your skill allows you.

125s dont have that much power, just they like to go skyward and stuff...it will feel more snappier, and maybe the same power, only at a higher speed. if you can physically rip your 300ex around then you will be fine on a 125. people are all hyped up about 125s

Go for it. Bikes are a lot more challenging and fun to ride than quads (IMO).

the CR will leave you wanting more power.

try another brand if you can. or whatever dealer is nearest you.

dont go to the trails to get practise for the track  go to the track and practise. do you see tree's on a track?

stand up when riding is all the advice i have for riding a dirtbike.

piston changes:

4 or so months for an 80

1 season for a 125

2 seasons for a 250

what year CR is this?

well its not gonna be brand new but it will probably be like 2 or so years old....cause im only starting to look for one now.....but the thing is my friends go trail riding too....would it be alright to go with them every now and then....or would it be real bad for the bike?

its fine if you can use a clutch right (duh you have a 300)

it might over-heat some times...but who cares.

buy used, sometimes people have goodies on them stock and theyre way less price than new.

youll have more fun on the bike than the 300 for sure!

The 125 will be fine in the woods, your clutch hand might get tired though. My YZ125 was fine in the woods, it helped me learn how to use the clutch really good, but if I were to do it all over again and buy another bike I would go with a 250 2-stroke, they have more low-end power and much more linear power and are easier to ride. That 125 powerband can get you sometimes when it hits, it hits really hard and you have to hold on tight. good luck with your new bike whichever you decide.

I think its more like twice a year for a 125 it all depends on how hard you ride it

get a cr 125 they got quite abit of power especially if its ur first bike i love ridin mine i like it alot better than my banshee i think ridin on two wheels is way funner than four even though my banshee is faster.

power wise the CR is the weakest of them all. But it definatly looks the best with the aluminum frame ;) . The KTM 125 is the fastest of them all. But the RM125 is the best overall with handling and power. I personally would get a YZ125 over the CR, but its all wat u want. and i dont understand...you can go up to like 3 years on a 125 top end. But granted if u can make them last that long you're not riding very hard, but this 1 season things..no.. i'd say once a year the average racer, maybe twice if u ride really hard

OK, looks like I have to set this straight.

The CR is by no means weak. You guys need to stop taking the magazines as the bible. The CR actually dynos out at more HP than the YZ. The KTM dynos at the most peak HP for the recent 125s.

The CR isn't the best beginners bike because it has less low end power and torque than the other bikes. This causes it to feel sluggish unless you ride it harder. They pull forever though. This makes them great for amateur/expert riders because they rarely use the low end but they are always in the top end. You can wind the CRs out forever.

The YZ is easier to ride for a novice, but they get boring. Sure, they have more bottom end than the CR, but they have no top end. They just shut off - they make noise but no "go". I have ridden tons of YZs (97-01s, stock and modded) because 5 of my riding buddies have them.

The CR is hands down the best suspended and best handling 125. The frame is magic, and the ergos are great. The bike tracts perfectly, and doesn't vibrate. It flies nice and straight in the air.

For a novice rider I would suggest the YZ125 or the KX125. Both have good bottom end which makes it easier for the novice riders. The RM125 is similar to the CR, but has more midrange and less top, and the handling is a little more squirrely (not as stable at speed, knifes in corners). Keep in mind this is for 00/01 ish bikes, not the 04s..

i was comparing the 04 bikes. but the cr125 really doesnt have much of anything on the low end, but once it revs up..it goes!! I will still probably end up with a KX125 or somin like that tho

definetly the CR125 is the best decision. 1 season if you race hard, 1-2 years if you take er easy.
