read in a thread that mickey dunlap said for extra compression you could use only on of the top layers of head gasket. Does any one run this with out the botom gasket also and is it reliable?

my friend runs this setup. actually, he had a problem with the headgasket leaking after about 2 weeks. however, we only used the middle layer of the cosmetic flexsteel head gasket which is so thin it is pratically nothing. we changed it out and made sure the surface was clean and put in the top layer of the gasket and we haven't had any problems. the key is to to make sure you have all of the surfaces clean. make sure all of the old gaskets are off too. then clean the surfaces with acetone. also, you will want to paint the headgasket with a high temp paint to help sealing when it is installed. now, my friend is having good success with this setup.
