I took my 400ex apart last weekend to clean it. I took the a arms off and in doing that I also took off the brake calipers. I left the pads in the calipers and let them hang. Now I have everthing back together my front brakes work, but not very well, the lever pulls all the way into the handle bar very easily with not much effort. I think the brake lines have air in them but how could air have gotten in there? Any thoughts?

P.S. I only posted this in the powertrain forum becasue more people read these post.

when i installed my a-arms and shocks the same thing happened to me.so i just put it back together and rode it around a little using the brakes and they stiffened back up.it is not air.no way for air to get in unless you have a leak.

pump them a bunch really fast & they might stiffen up & check your fluid level

I guess this is why the manual specifies to NOT let the calipers hang. I suppose the lines got stretched out and are now kind of 'loose' or 'baggy' I don't know how else to describe it:p

Might be time for some SS braided lines;)
