Got my MSO for the 450R today.

HP 43.4
Shipping weight 362.0

HP as listed on the MSO of other models:

Cannondale Cannibal - 40hp
YFZ450 - 39hp
LTZ/KFX400 - 35.2hp
400EX - 34.2hp

Interesting numbers....

That is interesting. I didn't know the MSO had hp #'s printed on them.

I believe they have to for insurance and liability purposes.

wow that is a lot of hp on the 400ex I always thought it was 28-30 and the z400 was about 32-34. I have heard from a couple of people that the stock number honda put out for the trx 250r was 42. Does anyone know anything about it? I have always thought it would be closer to the z or even below that.

These numbers more reflect crank numbers - you're thinking of rear tire numbers from a dynojet.

The numbers themselves are not important, but the differences they show are.

If I remember correctly, the 250R number was something like 36.

This 450R is significantly faster than my old stock 250r was. My stock 250R wasn't much faster than a stock 400EX --- although it felt a little faster due to the power delivery.

The 450R's power seems very similar to a Cannondale, only smoother and over a broader range. I know a YFZ's power is similar to a Cannondale as well.

I was thinking about the flywheel numbers not the dynojet but I am not saying you are wrong I just thought that the gap between the z400 and 400ex was greater.
good info though
I have never been able to race a stock 250r before on my 400ex or yfz or my dad's z400 they always have a pipe. I wonder if there are some bone stock ones still out there.

That what I was thinking on the 400EX, no way they are that much power.

Thats what was on the title of my old 400ex(34.2). If I remember correctly, there was only a 1-2 hp diff. between the z & ex. The real diff. was in the potential of the two motors because of the design.

Huh, my 2003 400EX had a white brothers full e-series, k&n and jetted for no air box lid. It ran really well. I guess it might have been upper 30's on hp? I sold it to my neighbor and it's no coparison to my 450R even when the HRC kit wasn't installed.

Those numbers show crank horsepower, as was already said in this thread.

I also find it interesting that no one reads the post when Gabe states its CRANK HP and not REAR WHEEL HP as all dynos show.

I'll agree, that's interesting. If those were both at the crank then Honda looses 3.1 hp between the crank and rear wheels, while Yamaha gains 2.2. That can't be, Yamaha must measure HP different than Honda. Maybe Yamaha measures in metric HP since they are made in Japan.;)

Not entirely sure you can compare the HP numbers listed on the Certificates of Origin (CO) for all these quads. Who knows how each was arrived at....yes, probably measured at the crank, but under what conditions, by whom, on what machine...

It all boils down to the same thing as comparing the YFZ to TRX WHP: unless the same guy, on the same dyno, under the exact same conditions, with all variables being equal....the results probably wont be comparable.

However, the HP numbers on the CO's for my 450R and 400EX were exactly the same as yours...for what thats worth.

Regarding the shipping weight of the 450R, did you notice that the shipping weight on the CO matches the weight listed in the manual BEHIND the sticker that they put on that page? I said this before....willing to bet the delay in the release of the 450R was due to that misprint...legal crud like that delay product release dates all the time.
