Choke on. No throttle. 1 or 2 kicks. 1 kick with boots on sometimes 2 without them. Funny how you seem to kick a little lighter without the boots eh? Kickback is not good for the shin!:D

i brought my r home in the trailer, unloaded it put the choke on and it started on the second kick. the temp. was about 20 .It always starts on 1st or 2nd. kick and i have only used the hot start 2 times. It is real easy to start at any temp. you can check out my two rs at www.gearworxriders.com click on the high lighted 450r and it will show other pictures of it . there is other cool stuff on the site also .

04 TRX450R

Location: Indiana

Weather: 20 Degrees, Light Flurries

Parked: Non Heated, attached Garage.

Last Ridden: Previous day

Process: Turn on Key, push off switch to run, pull out choke lever, Kick.

Fired on the first kick!

She usually fires on the first kick. Unbelievable how easy she starts. This is the easiest starting quad I have ever Kicked or pushed a Button on. Period!!!

A good thing to remember is to NOT give it any gas. SOme two stroke people are used to give it a little or a lot when they kick. Don't do that with the TRX.

Yep! Stay off the gas. If you give her gas, it will make it harder to start, might take three or four kicks instead of one or two.

Don't leave the choke on too long either, it only takes a a very short time to warm up.

Not so much that it makes it harder to start but it has an accelerator pump on it so it will dump fuel in it and flood it or worse these big thumpers are known to kick back and they kick back HARD!!!! I have seen a WR and have heard of a CRF that kicked back so hard it broke the center case when it hit the stop! DO NOT give it throttle to start.

Its freaky watching from the back of the carb when the airboot is off and you hit the throttle. This big jet of raw fuel is just dumped in the air stream.

First time ever starting it:

15 degrees outside, choke on... 3 kicks with shoes on.

Cant get much easier then that!

It is easy but not quite that easy unless you are a body builder or something.

I've kicked mine over sitting down! Easier to get started than my old 400ex.

It's been in the 20's a few times and mine fires right up. It was a little tough to start cold right when I got it but I don't know if I'm doing something different but it's really easy now. I'm glad it's kick start. That's the one thing I hated about my 400EX. If you're too lazy to kick it over maybe you should just stay on the couch.

Its taken me a few day but I'm learning.

I keep hitting the gas as I kick it and that is not the thing to do...

I'm in love with this quad! Its been 2 years since I had to kick start a bike and I thought I might regret it, but the 450r is a dream..

I have a WB Pipe, rejeted and no air box lid and it still starts great!:D

an easy thing to do to help you out with that is to put your hand on top of the throttle housing that way you cant hit the gas and still kinda hold on if needed
