These areas are nice to support also. Lots of force is applied in this area while riding, and it's a VERY common spot for cracks.

Also if you install a aftermarket/stronger steering stem and handlebars, the steering stem bracket mount at the top of the frame becomes a weak spot and will get way outa wack in a wreck. This will cause your entire front end to be misaligned which means a new frame is possibly the only fix... You can see the bracket I'm talkin about in the pic below.

Looks good 416exmx. I'll be buying some gussets from howboutchaw in the next day or so.

Does the 14pc kit come with gussets for the footpeg mount area, as shown in Rico's pic? I heard this was a weak spot on EX frames. Thanks.

Looks good 416exmx!

Here are some pics of the other two gussets that go with the kit.
Don't really have one for the foot pegs.

Any tips on how to clean the grease and dirt off the frame? Or will the sandblasting take that off? Thanks.

Hell yeah. I'm glad to hear that Rico. Have any tips on powdercoating? After gusseting, what? For example, leave bolts in? I've never had and powdercoating done, so IDK?

Now back to the thread topic. I just got my frame gussets from howboutchaw today, and they're sweet. Very nice. Just what they look like in the pictures. Great product, great price, and great service. Thanks howboutchaw!:D

Glad you liked them!!

It is a good idea to plug all of the holes in the frame. The hardest ones will be the hole that holds the steering stem bearing and the hole that the brake lever goes through. As far as all of the threaded holes, I would go to a hardware store and get a bunch of metric bolts. I think most are just standard 6mm and some are 8mm. I wouldn't recommend using the OEM Honda bolts because the powder will make them hard to get a wrench to fit them later on when you reassemble the bike. The holes that aren't tapped - like the ones the A-arms bolt to - I usually don't plug but I guess it wouldn't hurt if you did. The only oddball tapped holes are the ones for the footpeg mounts which can be plugged with some rubber vacuum-line caps. The reason I say they are oddball is because they're an uncommon metric fine thread. The only other tip I have is to sandblast the hell out of it. The OEM powdercoat is tough to remove.

I would guess even if you can't find the bolts to plug the holes, the powdercoater will plug them for you if you ask.

Damn this is a long post!

It is probably simpler than what I make it sound. Be sure to post pics when you get 'er back together.

Use steel wool in the big spots and heres a tip. Go to lowes or whatever. All of the 8mm head bolts are 6mm and the 10mm heads are 8mm etc. Thats what i did with mine and it turned out perfect plus u got some bolts so when u lose a couple u got some spares. I beleive it costed me like 12 bux and i got about 125.
