Carbueration advice please?

Hey,

I just ordered a 10.8:1 stock bore JE piston with a xr400 cam. I live in NJ and I am currently running a 158 main jet, 40 pilot, and stock needle setting. I was wondering how much higher do you think I should go with just these minor motor mods? I know you guys can't give me a exact jet number but I need a place to start from and jets are pricey.

I'm no expert, but if I were in your shoes, I would try moving the needle clip down one notch & a 160 main. Since jets are cheap, you could also try a 42 pilot & a 165 main, without any airbox mods or filter, you might be too rich then. How does the plug look right now?

i would get a 42-45 pilot, rich the needle a notch, and up the main to the next size, to help keep her cool.

Yeah jets are really expensive here, from 5 to 15 bucks. The jetting its at right now is even alittle rich, when I first start it up it puffs black smoke and you can even smell the raw gas. I have a K&N air filter, outerwear air box cover, and a wb e series pipe with no spark arrestor. I don't think I really need to improve the pilot jet. I think i am going to try a 160 and go down one on the needle and see what she runs like. If you have better suggestions feel free to reply, I'm always open for ideas.

I didn't know I was so lucky. I bought a 165 main last week & was mad that I had to pay 3.50 for it.

What is the exchange rate for bones and Dollars? Is this dog or cow bones?
