Is the sleave on a z400 aluminum or steel?
We're getting ready to take my buddies Z to 440 and want to know so I can get a price for changing sleaves from my machinist.

I would only be guessing but I would say it is steel. The head itself is aluminium but the sleeve is steel.

what exactly is nikasil coating? What happens when you bore it out and remove the coating?

It's a nickel-silicon plating they line the cylinder with rather than using a sleeve. It reduces friction and expands at the same rate as the cylinder so piston seizure isn't as likely to occur. If you bore it out you have to send the cylinder somewhere and have it recoated.

I think the Wisco kit comes with a steel sleave. Am I right?

i can't answer that one for sure, but it wouldn't suprise me if they threw in an old fashioned liner so they could sell their piston kits and people wouldn't have to worry about re-coating the cylinder walls.

i think i heard that hayabusas have chrome cylinders and will almost never scratch.

So, you should just have to bore the cylinder for the sleeve and install the sleeve?

The stock sleeve is alum. You can get an alum. or steel after market sleeve but Wiseco only does alum.

if the sleeve is already the right bore size then the cylinder will have to be bored to fit the sleeve, you should let the shop install it though

Mickey,
What do you use? Do you have 440 kits available?
