These questions are for the people that have aftermarket exhausts on there 450r's.
1. What kind of pipe is it?
2. Full system or not?
3. Was it a pain to put on?
4. Does it feel stronger than stock? Describe.
5. Did it come with jets and/or air filter?

I hope to get enough responses on this thread to give everyone in the market for a pipe (including myself) an idea of what to expect from what companys. Thanks in advance for replies!

I just put the HMF red powder-coated pipe on mine. No need for the header, yet. Without the quiet core it sounds perfect. With it, it's just missing something. Very easy to install. Took about 5 minutes. No jetting. I had it dyno'ed with it on and the jetting was fine. I had the HRC kit installed before this so the jetting was already done. I gained almost 20% in torque. Not too much at peak but about 5 hp in the mid. It did make a huge difference. It seems to rev alot more and I can lift the front end up easier. Speaking of that, I'm not sure why people are complaining about the front end, to me it's perfect. It's not too light like some people are saying. Anyways, I'll try and get some pictures up later.

I have the Duncan Fat boy 4 and its was easy to put on. It took about 5 minutes. It cost 499.99 from golden west cycle. It feels much more powerful than the stocker with the HRC tip on it. Desribing it is easy. ITS FAST. I would recomend getting one. They do send jetting specs and jets I do believe. They didnt send me any because I got the 4th pipe they made and at that time they didnt have a production unit with the stock carb. The pre production units came with a different carb. If you want pics let me know.

So I take it you had the complete HRC kit installed prior to the Duncan system? I have the HRC kit now and am probably going to get the Duncan system. So was it a big difference or a little difference over the HRC kit? How loud is it?

The Duncan pipe isn't overly loud. It has a better sound than the HRC pipe. As far as power gains go, you can feel a gain through out the entire range. I like it to say the least. All pipe are going to be a little different, some of its what you like, I like a good pipe that isn't way too loud, but I like the power that this pipe puts out.

I put my sparks full exhaust on today and it made a big difference. It widened out the powerband a lot. It took about 3 minutes to put on since it is made so well. Also installed the sparks air filter. I hope this helps.

Most Sparks exhausts I have heard are very loud. Do they make different end caps or addons to quiet it up, when necessary, or do you have to buy a complete different silencer.

lukester720

I looks like it is going to be a different silencer. www.sparksracing.com you'll see trx450r on the banner.

I put a full HMF system on one of mine yesterday, the other is still just HRC equipped. The difference is ubelievable, it has an amazing amount of torque compared to the HRC. Though in a drag race it only pulls the HRC by about a bike and half, on the street. The low end is just silly, way to much. The rest of the powerband also increased but alot of low end.

do you think just the slip on would be better with the hrc kit?I'm trying to decide on which pipe to get and I like the HMF but was wondering whether or not to get the full system or just a slip on

I got the stainless one. It didn't come with the jet kit they are sold seperately and will be available pretty soon. With the pipe and air filter with no airbox lid I'm running a 190 main jet and its perfect. I will try to post some pics tommorow.

Where did ya get your jet kit? what did it consist of?

Is that with the HRC cam or not?

I'm going to have to adjust my jetting. It seems a little lean w/ HRC cam, Sparks full exhaust, no airbox lid, and 185 main and 48°F outside.

That was with no hrc kit. Sparks air filter with lid off. The temp was only like 31 degrees and I ran the 190 main jet.

Did adding the system to the hrc kit still make a big difference?

If its cold there like it is here I would pick up 190 and mabey a 195 just to be on the safe side. Kevin from sparks told me to get a 190 and that was after I told him I had no hrc kit. Curtis might of said you didn't have to change the jetting because of the nice california weather he lives in. We have to fatten it up a little here in the cold weather. But the 185 might work ya never know.

Going from stock to HRC kit made a difference, then going to Sparks full system made another improvement.

When I was going through the gears near wide open throttle, it seems to cut out a little. I pulled the plug and it was almost white. I'm going to have to go up to a 190 or 195. The plug looked good at idle and at mid-throttle, so I won't have to move the needle, just rejet. Now if I go up a couple of jet sizes, I may have to move the needle clip up one notch to compensate.

Nice pics Lukester.
Is the power increase very noticeable???
I am curious, cause 1st gear seems to tall for me, but I thought a pipe might make it feel just right if it got that low end grunt.

The exhaust made a big difference over the whole powerband. I have the 13 tooth sprocket but I don't think I will be puting it on only time will tell but it feels like it has enough power without it.
