I have a 400ex pretty much stock except for a wb e series slip on and kn filter and dynojet kit, and airbox lid removed. I ride pretty much in all kinds of places. sand, mx tracks and trails. what bore should i use also compression and piston brand. i want a hotcam but not sure which one. will the stage 2 kill my bottom end? Id still like to have decent bottom end. Will a stage 1 make much difference? id like to outrun suzukis. thanks.

I would recommend a 416 kit with about a 10.8 to 1 comp piston and a hotcam stage 2. With my standard bore 10.5 to 1 comp piston and hotcam stage 2, my bottom end is about the same as stock but my mid range and top end are awesome.

Question is, how much money do you have? lol

If money is not a concern, Id say go big. 426-435-440. Use nothing less than a 13.1 compression piston. Also, throw in a high end cam. Maybe some port and polishing.

Talk to KFulk, I believe hes building a 460 gernade motor. ;)
