View Full Version : What gasket should I use w/ a 416 kit?

I got my piston & cam from Marcum's today & got the engine taken apart, but I have some questions about gaskets. Should I use the ex gasket or the xr gasket? I understand that the xr gasket is thinner, which will increase the compression but retard the timing (I have a sparks advance key if that matters). I want the higher compression, but will I lose a lot of timing? Also, will a gasket for a 400 work, or do I need one for a 416? Or do I buy one for a 400 & have that gasket bored, too  (that seems wrong)? I have heard of people using hi-temp sealant instead of a gasket for the base of the cylinder, should I do that or not? If anyone has any insights or opinions to share I would appreciate it. Thanks
i to would like some answers for this question

I ordered the 416 kit from Marcum's yesterday. They said it came with gaskets. I would call them.

i'm scared now cause my marcums kits suppose to be coming today and i got it all ready to slap back together. i hope they sent my gaskets with.
I can't remember off the top of my head but the gasket I got was a cometic gasket with a 86 mm bore. which is more than stock bore but less than a 416 bore,,and I don't think anything was done with it except putting it on.
Vegas,,call Terry I'm sure he'll take care of you..:D
