I think that the 350 Raptor was a smart move on Yamahas part. Don't start flaming but I wish that when I bought my first warrior in 1987 that they would have looked like that. the warrior was a proven big seller for yamaha, at one time before Honda stepped up with the 300 and 400 it was the top selling 4 stroke sport quad. It is still a good selling unit thats why it is still in yamahas line up, with that said I wonder if that plastic will fit the warrior frame, that frame look a hell of a lot like a warrior frame. I predict that they will sell a lot of them. not a bad move for Yamaha, and I still have a warrior, not my favorite quad but never the less a dependable trail riding machine.

The YFZ looks real good in black, but I agree with the others that that "Raptor 350" is extremely gay and ugly.

I think this was a smart move on Yamaha's part. They took an outdated quad that probably wasnt selling very well, gave it a facelift too look just like their newer sport/race quad....probably for next to nothing (R&D cost) and I bet they sell alot more of these than they did warrior "looking" quads.

All company's do this sooner or later with their line up... its a way to squeeze a few extra bucks out of an old design.

doesnt it seem like yamaha is always making new colors to boost sales, they make a new color for every quad every 6 months. I bet the new honda wont be in yellow for atleast a year and a half

yamaha figured that it works for the badger 80 now raptor 80, much bigger seller, so they will do it to the warrior

wrong there blue boy...

1st exriders rausch ride a kid on a 300ex did every jump on the track...

plus people jumpin a warrior, 300ex, even any quad stock that far is just flat out stupid and askin for it... he'll see when he cracks the frame in half one time over it and it hurts him pretty bad...

just like the kid on here with the blaster... he wrecked bad bc he suspension couldn't handle it... he cracked his shock in half another... just plain stupid:o

I prefer the look of the Warriors rather then the Raptor 350, I think they look much nicer, but Yamaha needs to do something with that stupid exhaust the Warriors have. It's too square and odd looking in my opinion.

I think the Raptor 350 looks much better than the Warrior, it finally looks like something from this century. In my honest opinion, I think the TRX450R sets a new standard of fugly :( , thats just my opinion, and I shouldnt get flamed for that, though I know someone probably will.

I agree.............the new look of the warrior is better than the old '80s utility quad look...........

And there is no doubt the 450r is pretty ugly........but it is slowly (and I mean SLOWLY ) growing on me.;) ......

and even though i am not too fond of it's looks, It will be my next quad................please don't tell my wife I said that :o I thought she was gonna murder me when I brought the yfz home.

Well, quad_rider, if I understood you correctly you think that the raptor 350 will beat a 250ex. All I have to say about that is DUH!, and not to be mean but the name of this site is EXRIDERS.com, not yfzriders.com. I happen to think honda has the best atv's on the market. That's why I bought one. So, just chill.

See, the reason that I bought a honda over a yamaha, is because when I was little I remeber my grandpa and uncles and cousins all had honda 3 wheelers. They didn't have any problems with them and from a young age I became a honda (as far as atvs are concerned) person. I did run across a couple different yamaha 3 wheelers some of my friends had and I wan't impressed, as they were always having trouble with one thing or another. That doesn't mean yamaha made crappier products but as far as I was concerned, and with what I had experience with, they did. So last fall when I finally decided to replace my 81 atc 200 with a new four wheeler I decided from the get go to get a honda. Im sure that yamaha has come along way since I was little but again, Im a honda person. So, first I was going to get a 400ex. I scratched that idea upon learning there was no reverse. And I don't care what anyone says, I need reverse. The trails I go on are in some very thick rocky woods, there narrow, and often disapear into nothing and getting off and swinging it around was not something I was willing to do. So then it came down to the 300ex and the 250ex. I didn't like the looks of the 300 really at all, and the difference in power was not worth the thousand dollar difference, and because I had always had an auto clutch 3 wheeler I decided to go with the 250ex. Im perfectly happy with it and don't regret my purchase at all. So, what the heck is my point? Really folks, theres alot more important things then what kind of quad you have. Some may say my 250ex is small slow and doesn't have any power, but maybe there quad is large and bulky and doesn't have reverse. To each his own.

polabareus
02-11-2004, 05:50 PM
The sad fact of the matter is that most people are dumb and insecure and they have to put down other peoples things to make themselves feel better. I could care less about those people because had I wanted to, I could have bought any 4 wheeler thats made. Well, lets see, I don't race, I don't care to go all that fast, I have to have reverse and I didn't want to have a big bulky 4x4, plus I like an auto clutch better then a manual, so a 250ex was what I went with, and if somebody thinks their cooler then me because their daddy bought them a 400ex, or they blew all their money they made at buger king on it, their just dumb. Maybe they do have a better quad, but only in their mind because for me the 250ex is the better quad to have. Plus when Im done riding I go in my house and sit down in front of my 48" HDTV and enjoy something they might not have. And if they have a cool tv, what do they drive? And how nice is their house, and how much do they make at their job, and on, and on. I could easily diss people about the stuff they have, but I grew up and became mature, and so should they.

You guys need to look a little closer. This is not just a warrior with new plastic.

It is an all new frame. It is a tad bit wider, a little longer wheelbase. They also changed the carb (one of the raptors) and pipe. It is also 30 pounds lighter. Also keep in mind this is not in the same class as the Z and 400EX. This is to compete with the 300EX (which Honda is due to upgrade).

Yamaha should have done this change ten years ago.

This is the non honda forum isn't it???

Anyways, after reading a bunch of crap replies there are a few decent ones.

I wonder how different it will handle and run. I have a warrior all built up with works shocks on it, I wonder if this one will be better right off of the show room floor (handling wise). I think the new 33mm carb is for sharper throttle response, compared to the old 36mm btm. The new exhaust is also a big pluss. I do kinda like the old traditional body style, but everyone is different. The old warrior was faster then the 300ex was, I think the smaller tires ect will make it quicker. But will also bring the top speed down to 300ex territory.

Lol, that would be the first thing to go anyways though. Everyone knows that stock banshee tires are on the poopy side when it comes to traction.

Not everyone is stuck up.............

  :huh

Congradulations on your new quad 400grl. Is the banshee going to stay or go?

I think this is a nice entry level quad, it looks "sportier" than the Warrior (I think they look like utilities almost) Heck I might go check it out for my son, looks like it'd be a good TRAIL quad. Thats just my opinion & we're all entitled to that ;)

:( Well - unfortunately with my new house payment being what it is.....and me not wanting to finance a quad.....the Banshee is going to have to go in order for me to pay cash for a new racer. :( I will miss it......especially when I go to the dunes.......but I just can't finance a play toy!! I plan on getting another one later when I can pay cash for it......it's just too much fun to not have one ready for the sand - you know??? ;)

Understood:(

You will like that 450 alot though. I remember after I got my 426 I rode it almost everyday for months. That motor is awesome uncorked. Pluss it will be more moto friendly, since that is what you mainly do.

I know I would miss mine if I sold it, but that 450 will be an awesome duner too.
Buy a used banshee in a few years, and make it into a built up sand dragger.

My new non honda toy should be back this weekend (hopefully:grr: ). I know it sucks in all since it's not a honda. But honda doesn't make these...

But hey, it is just MY opinion, some people think the trx450r is ugly, i think it looks awesome, and someone said something about yellow plastic on the 450, i agree 100%, why would they only make them in red?.. So maybe some of us just have different taste?
