400ex or 250r

I have come across an opurtunity to pick up a really nice 87 250r for a price of $2500 w/ stock rims and tires or $3000 w/beadlocks and razor 2's. The engine is stock and the quad is clean as the original tires are still about 80%. My friend is the second owner the first owner bought in new rode it twice flipped it then put it in the garage. My buddie has since put one ride on it and loaded it up with some bells and whistles. Such as tag 2 handles bars, Curtis Sparks pipe, and some other stuff. I now have a stock 400 ex with basically the same type of mods. Do you think this is a good deal? I ride local trails and Rausch Creek? Has anybody gone from a 4 stroke to a 2 and regreted it? I never had an R and eventually would like to get a new 450 but I think this would be fun for awhile as a change then maybe get a 2nd or 3rd year 450. What do you think.

I think you should get the R. I sold my 300ex for my R and I absolutly love it. I know a 300 and a 400 arent very comparable, but i think you will like the R. Thre are just great to ride, the thing most people dont like about them is maintence but it sounds like with the low hours on the one you're looking at you should be good.

Yeah I am really leaning towards the R. I think that it would be fun to ride something new. I don't really want to put alot of money into the 400ex with the new R out. Does anybody know what a 01 400ex is worth I was thinking somewhere between $2500 - high $3000

I would go with the 250R. With the low hours on it, you really will kick yourself later if you don't buy it. It would probably be that bike you always wish you'd have bought if you don't hop on it, especially since it sounds like it is in mint condition.
