Which pipe and silencer do you guys think is better for a 250r, ESR trx5 or adj LRD? I am running the ESR pipe now and think its a really good pipe, but i have a chance to buy a LRD pipe cheap. I called LRD today and they said it would be a night and day difference. But I also know any company is going to say there product is much better. So what would you guys do keep the ESR or get the LRD?

I've tried both and liked the ESR trx5 better...

Probably the ESR. What's your current motor setup (porting, head, carb, etc.)?

Right now its pretty much stock. All it has is rad valves, and is .020 over. I am going to get low to mid port soon. I like my esr pipe, but lrd told me just using there pipe would make my motor run much better as it is.

i am going to get a new carb too as soon as i decide which would be best. I trying to decide between the Mikuni TMX and the Keihin air stryker.

I'm not sure how ESR's low-mid ports are, I know their top end ones are pretty good. LRD ovbiously does good low-mid ports (Bill Ballance, Jerimiah Jones) and LRD can make their ports work better with their pipe than with a ESR pipe (which the TRX5 is a mid-top end pipe btw). Just depends on what you want to do. The LRD pipe might work better for low end.
For top end i'd stick with the ESR pipe and get their porting, but it sounds like you want a woods bike.

Yeah that sounds about right. I think both companies do great work. But if i get LRD port work i might as well try the LRD pipe.

I recommend the Mikuni tmx, it has awesome throttle response and it's really snappy. Changing jets are a snap, and everything on it is pretty top notch. I don't have a complaint about mine at all.

I don't think you should be asking what pipe is better. I think you should be asking what you want out of your motor as a rider and work from there. Do you like a smother power delivery or would you like it to pick up more in the upper end and rev out better? The LRD has got to have one of the smothest power curves but it don't really rev out that hard compared to a lot of pipes on the market. The only pipe that revs out less is the PTR trx6(which I happen to like btw). The ESR works great and revs out nicly.

I thought the TRX-6 was ESR's low-mid pipe?
It really does depend on what type of motor you want. It sounds like you want a bottom-mid motor. Small carb, high velocity porting, soft reeds, pipe with lots of bottom-mid (long belly), and lots of compression (coolhead, or if you are trying to keep costs down get a CR head gasket or get the head milled).

It is, I got confused(happens alot). The PTR low end pipe is called the TRX 89 Race. Thats what is stamped in the side anyway.

I think what everyone is saying is "better" is a subjective term. There is probably one pipe that would best fit your application but you gotta be really specific.

Yeah. Depending on what I read up on.. I may try out a 39mm keihin just to see if i can notice a difference in throttle response, and top end.

i've riden a 250R with a LRD pipe and i was impressed the power both low end and top. i've never riden one with an ESR pipe but i have read great articles about it
