New to the board so I'm trying to see the response to this. My 03 400EX is a pain to start when its cold. It also fouls the plug easily when starting. When it warms up it starts and runs fine. Whats the trick? Stock motor white bros e series slip on.

I'm a newbie also.
I asked the same question myself.
The responses I got back were that the 400ex is cold blooded by nature.
It was suggested that I change my main jet to a 42, this would help the cold starting problem but would not cure it.
I have not yet tried this, so can not speak from experiance. Search this forum, you will learn alot

Welcome to the site:Dyou will want to go with a 42 piolet, and if you want remove your choke. Go about 2-2 1/2 turns out on the air/mixture screw and this should be good.

Here is a link that should help you remove your choke-

I agree. If you are using your choke, I would advise not to pump the gas....changing spark plugs is a pain in the @$$...

with the choke removed????? You will probably need to pump the gas a few times if you choke is removed. If you pump it, pump it about 2 times, start it and than it will probably die. Pump it a couple more times, and start it again, it should run. If it dies again do the same thing, and by now it should stay running. If your choke is still on the bike, that is all you should need to start it. I wouldn't pump the gas and use the choke, or it may foul a plug...and like I said earlier its a pain in the @$$ to change a plug:devil:

Thanks for the advice on this. I know I need to change plug YEAAA because I fouled it. If I pump the gas twice and start it usually fires and dies, do it again and thats were I have the problem. Would changing the pilot hurt me in the summer months? I'm used to two stroke dirt bikes so this electric start thing has got me all messed up but I thank you all for the response.

You missed my point, READ the entire thread. There's some good info about removing the choke. Don't bother with what the original post was about.
