View Full Version : 400ex cam or piston

i want to get a cam or high compression stock bore piston but dont have enough money for both right now. i have a full hmf exhast k&n airfilter and no air box lid. what would give me more top end or overall power a cam or a high compression piston and what kinds thanks.

It would best to do both the cam and the piston at the same time. Save your money untill you can afford to do both. ;)

Find a 400XR cam, should be cheap used, and do the piston. The piston kit should be less than $100, the bore/honing should be pretty cheap.

a mild cam should give you some top end increases even with the stock piston. however, if it was me, i would put a piston in first so you have it and then put in a cam when you get a little more cash. if you get the piston put in, it will be less work to put the cam in at a later date. however, i can't see you gaining too much from just a piston especially if your wanting top end.
