I want to know who out there owned or owns a fully built 440ex and now owns a 450r and what you think about the new 450r after riding it. I have a built 440ex and am wanting a 450r. I would appreciate all your impressions of it. Intelligent responses only please. Thanks!!!!

I have never owned a 440ex, but I owned a 400ex and I rode a couple of 440's. I don't think the 440 is in the same league, but I am sure they will be competitive on the track. This due mostly because we all know how much rider experience comes into play.

I haven't riddein a fully built 440 but I would be it would beat a stock 450R. You are compareing apples to oranges though. If you take all the cash you spent on fully building the 440 and dump it into the 450 then you will have a much faster bike.

My buddy is picking his new trx450r tuesday and were going to go riding friday so I will tell you how it goes. I know my 440 should be faster than it stock but after a few mods on the trx450r I think It will be faster.

My 416EX (mods in sig) could EASILY beat any 400, 416 and 430 that I raced in 1/8th mile pavement drags or sand/dirt drags. It also could walk away from LT250Rs, 250Rs and LTZ400's in these drags. It could beat lightly modded DS650s and Raptors in sand/dirt drags, and would only be 1-2 quad lengths behind them (after all quads reached top of 5th) in 1/8th mile pavement drags. I raced 1 440EX, and killed him, but I dont think it was "fully built" by any means.

My stock 450r is faster than my 416. Thats all I can tell you right now...and it does this while being able to hear the engine and the chain spinning over the exhaust note.

Keep everything in perspective guys. A built 300EX can beat a stock 400EX.

I hope the 450r is faster than my 440ex. I have betten every kind of 4 strokes in the sand so we'll see how it goes. My 440ex isn't super fast but it has TONS of torque for the hill shoots but on flat draging on a 400 foot sand drag the EX was about a bike length and on the hill it was about 2 1/2 - 3 bike length on a stock YFZ but if you would have put a pipe on the YFZ it would have been different.

If I swapped a CBR900RR motor into a TRX450R frame, and lengthened the swingarm 24" to keep the front end down, I know it would be extremly fast in a strait line. It probably would not be very good at anything else though.

My point is, speed is not everything. I can't remember me and my buddies making a big fuss over which quad was faster, handling, reliability and other factors always played a more important role. Probably due to the fact that we rode mostly woods and on medium sized MX tracks. Now if you strictly Dune or compete in Drag's I could see it being an important factor.

Too much power just wears you out, makes it hard to get traction. Although, you don't want to enter a long strait in a XC race and have the guy in front of you keep pulling away.

Honda I totally understand what you meen. Only reason I was talking about drags is because every were else I belive the new trx 450r will destroy a 440ex.;)

I stopped at the local Honda shop when I saw the mechanic out back driving one, I 've become friends with him from questions and answer's with my 416 and he told me a bulit 400 would give him a good run with 450 being stock, he said he expected more but he also said with emission's and all it is pretty choked up.

My 440 won't touch my 450 but my 450 also has the HRC kit in it.

I have a hopped up 440 ex. I haven't rode the new 450r yet, but my buddy has a yfz 450 and I've spent some time on it, and I can tell you there's no comparison, the 450 will spank it. I'm not a Yamaha fan either. And it's not just the rider either, because I can ride circles around him, but in a drag race he beats me. Therefore I'm pretty confident that the 450r would win as well.

Thanks for the comments guys. There seems to be some good input here. Some people seem to be making their minds up without actually having gone out and raced them. I am getting the 450r and I know that it has more potential for power but I'm just curious what it will do against my built 440ex. I am not all about drag racing, don't get me wrong, but a fairly conducted drag race is the best way to compare power. Also, I am buying and have owned honda's because I know they will handle great. My 400ex handles great. I am just posing the question for anyone who has actually raced both. I am amusing at this point that my built 440ex will be a little faster that the 450r stock.

i just got the new 450r and i race a 465 ex with 20,000$ worth of mods. and it will flat smoke the 450r. however. i don't think it will take much to make the 450 up to par. stock it handles like nothing else.
also i drag raced a piped raptor on my new R. and he did beat me both times by about a quad length. I think the tall 1st gear had a lot to do with it it was on pavement and i damn near stalled both times.
