I'm not trying to fill this board with mindless questions and this is the last, but i was wondering everyone's thoughts on either a 330R or a 440EX. I am planning to buy one or the other this coming summer. I loved my past 250R and would have liked to make it a 330R but ran out of time and money. I also love the 400ex and would want to put a 440 kit in it. I ride woods and some fields and just wanna go fast like everyone else! I realize that these are two very different machines in where the power is located but for the amount of money that i would spend to make the 400 the way i want it, i could spend 3000 less and have a 330R. what do you think?

The thing I'd look at is reliability. Just trailriding, I don't see how you can go wrong with a 4 stroke. A big bore modded 330R, is going to require maintence.

A 440ex, just put gas in it, clean the air filter, change the oil and ride.

Just my .02 cents.

A 330r requires the same maintenence of a 250r.

if the motor was built correctly the only maintenece is to change the oil in the tranny every other ride or every 3rd ride.

And to make sure the compression is above 20% from when it was new. If the compression is lower than 20% from when it was new it is time to do a top end.
Thats about all the maintenece needed, beside adkusting the chain and cleaning the air filter.

Dont be scared of a 2stroke because of maintenece, most of the people on this board are scared of the maintenece involved.
All I have owned is 2 stroke honda's I never had any problems.
I do maintain my own bikes and each individual mechanic will tell you preventive maintenece and regular check ups are how to keep a 2 stroke purring! ;)

I can tell you this.

You will smoke alot of banshees with a 330r if the motor is built right and all the other drive train components are in good working order.

my friend has a ct330r and he walks all over banshees with it.

no 440 will keep up with a 330r unless the 440 is running alky, and the 330r is on 93 octane. That may even be far fetched, I doubt a 440 on alky would beat a 330r .But ill give em the benefit of the doubt.

:D

here is my friends ct330

thats one trick 330, but i personaly like 440s better, i jus like the sound, and i think the power is more suited for trails, that a 330r.

Go with the 330r. If it is ported for lowend by a respectable builder it will be easier to ride through the woods then a stock R. And when the trails open up your'll be able to smoke your buddies. A 330r is proably MORE relaible then a 440ex. I would bet money on it!

I would wouldnt get a CT330 kit though. You are better off with a lrd. They all are the same cylinder, just different porting.

ya either way its a 330, you can always have someone re port it too.

well, they r both hondas, both fast, both can be set up for ur riding, both should be built by ct, and u can make both rip, chose the one u like most.

Ct isn't # 1 for customer service or performance. The lrd 330 will be better. They port much better up there.

according to the prices, CT racing's is 1775.00 for the job and LRD's is 2097.00 and with a cool head is like 2984.00. For the money wise, i like CT's price better but IF LRD is better than.......

also, can i get a cool head for CT's job? and how much of a difference does a cool head actually make?
