400EX with XR650 engine?

Hey guys,

I dont know if this has been asked before, but is it possible to put a XR650 engine into a 400EX frame, without much modifications? I would obviously think that I would have to modify the engine mounts but would there be any other major changes needed to be made? Finally, can i order a 650 engine from honda and for how much?

Can it be made to fit? Yes! BUT it will involve a lot of fabrication & modification. The 650 is also water cooled, that will require some creativity and plumbing work also. You can buy an engine from Service Honda. Have you looked into a good all-around 440?

i have looked at making the 400 a 440, but i just wanted to know what anyone thought. it was a question that had crossed my mind last night while sitting on the "throne".
