I want to get a 416 kit for my EX but didn't know where to start or what to get. I have a Big Gun full race exhaust, K&N filter, and it's jetted. I was thinking of just a 11.0 or 10.8 comp. piston. I wanna be able to run 93 octane. Also thinking of which cam to get between hotcams stage 2 and is an HRC cam really worth that much more??? I don't plan on spending too much on the kit but would rather spend just a little more on a better piston or cam and have a little more reliability.

I just got a JE 416 10.8:1 Piston, Cometic Flex Steel Gaskets, Valve Seals, and TC XC Cam put in! I think it will be a great setup. Get the 10.8:1 for pump gas. Haven't heard anything bad about the HRC, or the TC Cam like I have!

I have the hotcams stage 2, and I love it. Never had any problems with it. It made a huge mid range/top end difference. I have had this setup for over a year and no problems. I run 93 octane gas.

if you want it done right you can beat his quality of work to price ratio!

that cam is $190 plus you need to give them your stock cam??

if you want something cheap and reliable i would just order the stuff from C&D. i would get a 10.8:1 piston and a hotcam. the hotcams only run about $125. i am running one without any problems. i can't see paying the extra cash for the hrc. yes, it comes with the decompression assembly but you don't need that. i think you are just paying extra because it is a honda part. it is a pretty similar grind as the hotcam anyways. the piston will be around $120. the cosmetic flexsteel gasket kit is $40. the boring will depend on who you have do it. i paid $90 for boring and having them put the rings on. i told them to gap the rings but who knows if they did or not. this is about all you need. a service manual is about manditory if you want to do this work yourself. i found it to be easy with the manual though. good luck

Heard a lot of good things about GT Thunder, FDO, Baldwin, and even Fischer's Cycle can build a great motor! All from Ohio also.

how much does it cost to ship u'r engine out to get it bored and possibly the piston installed?

I would just have a local shop do that. No need to send the engine unless there is nobody local.

do you need harden rockers for the TC cam?

Dave400ex

Nope, the TC Cam is a drop-in. I went ahead and bought new stock valve springs and rockers though!

Do you think getting just a cam could make a big difference with a full exhaust, air filter and proper jetting? If so, how hard is it to install? Does the bike need to be re-timed or anything?

when you bore your motor to a 416, do you bore the sleeve and put the piston in. I thought that there was a coating on the sleeve that had to be there.

yeah all you do it bore it and put the bigger piston on the crank shaft. (in lamest terms)

What's the measurement of a 416 bore? Stock is a 85 mm, correct?

Dave400ex

416 is an 87mm piston.

When you do it coat it with this she rev's quick and the heat is held away from the piston making it last longer;)

another quick question, anyone know how much power a descent 416 kit puts out? Just curious to see what kind of improvement I might see over stock.

it depends on how extensive your motor is. I would say with a bore, piston, cam, exhaust, and fcr properly jetted it would be around 35hp or more:eek2:
