Round #1 was held for the first time West of the Mississippi in the "The Lonestar" State Texas. The facility the Texas Motorized Trails Coalition provided an excellent facility with plenty of parking. The track was located on what is called locally the "Mountain." The whole drive to the track from Dallas was completely flat. Then, I started up 155 North of Gilmer and saw the what I would call a hill, but the view from it was incredible with everything flat south and west.

C&D Racing (Colby & Dusty) made the long drive from Nebraska to check out what GNCC racing was all about. Boy, did they have a heck of a track to get broke in on.

Traci & Rick had their quad also delivered to Texas on the Johns Towing Rig, and pitted with the Team Safari. Rick, unfortunately, didn't race and concentrated on Traci's race, which turned out to be a great Idea

Tireballs, Rod Cooper, was extremely busy Friday and Saturday installing Tireballs into a huge amount of racers tires. They were going non stop and from the track conditions, tireballs was a product that made an incredible difference for riders who didn't have to worry about flats from the rock fields.

ITP Tires were setup and ready to serve all of their riders with the newly expanded track side tire services.

My Z400 made the long track in great shape, but after practice I quickly relized that my front brakes weren't working properly. After over an hour of working one them, with many different riders, I gave up. They one worked , but the right side wouldn't grab, which made the race a little bit more interesting.

Colby & Dusty picked up their new toy TRX450R on the way to the race, and we all rode it around the lot. I must say that I really liked it and I can't wait to get mine.

I (#70 Harlen Foley) came out in the top 4 on the outside, but I was hit two times and dropped to last place, which isn't where you want to be in such a competitive class.

Dusty Kostman suffered a nasty spill in the 1st lap with her quad flipping sideways on top of her a tight woods section. After struggling to lift the quad off of her for several minutes, she was able to get free. Unfortunately, it badly bruised her chest, but she still continued and finished 7th in her very first GNCC race.

I had a horrible first lap, with almost wrecking on the start. Then I got stuck trying to get around a wrecked Super Senior Rider. By the time I got going again, the Utility Unlimited class was already coming through. As I was trying to work my way through them, I came into contact with a Vforce and it sent me flipping. After remounting the Z, I had to pass the Utility Unlimited class again, which I did with more caution.

Admin
02-03-2004, 05:54 PM
I was only able to work my way back up to 10th in the Stock Class and 24th overall. I hope that I have better luck in Florida, which I really don't look forward to at all if it is anything like last year.
