KASCHAK
01-31-2004, 06:21 PM
Ill be racing four stroke C I dont know if i ll get my motor back in time. but if its really cold i might not even go. should be an easy race for people who dont get cold really quick. anyone know what kinda stuff there giving out for prizes?

QuadMatt
01-31-2004, 08:30 PM
I think there are five foot trophies cuz its round one of PA series.

02-01-2004, 07:27 AM

KASCHAK
02-01-2004, 09:03 AM
im thinking about sitting this one out too. motor might not be done. but if it is i dont want to beat the hell out of it in the snow. gotta be gentle on it for a couple rides. it depends on how many people go. i might just go to watch

Kilabanshee
02-01-2004, 09:26 AM
I dunno I might race b class but I'm probobly gonna run c for alittle. Quads almost done just need a few bolts tighten and lube up the chain and i should be good. Hughes do they have any lists soo you can check the attendence before you race?? If they dont have alot of people in B ill probobly just race that..

I will be there. I'll be racing my 400ex in the Open C class. The 250r is still a work in progress. Does anyone kow the registration and race time for the quads? I heard they are after the bikes this year.

Jason,

What was the reasoning for the quads running last in 2004? What is the schedule new start times?

jlhughes750
02-02-2004, 09:30 AM
I was given no reason!!! the new start times for the quads will be 2:30 I believe......I guess it'll help the guys coming from the GNCC's..... i think it stinks but thats just my opinion.

I guess when its messy it will be to our advantage???

anyhow!!this weekend!!!!everyone ready who's goin???

02-02-2004, 09:39 AM
i may or may not be ready jason, i should have taken your advice on the suspension:mad:
theres just nothing in the world like being jerked around becuase you rushed parts off to the powedercoater and they screwed it up.....twice! and then having the balls to give me attitude becuase you have to blast it and send it to a different powdercoater because your first one sucked........costing you extra $$$
did i mention

all the while costing me 3 days of practice time! and a half tank of gas!

"well, it doesnt look THAT bad"...wtf??????

i may come up anyway to do a race report for paatving, and get lots of pics..

I'll be racing out there Open C. I am hoping it gets colder out there. Keep all you fair weather people home. This is where my body fat pays off (MORE INSULATION).

Rick I asked about the later starts and got a half arsed response that it was better for the bikes that way. Track wouldn't be as rutted or messed up for them.

I guess we know where we are in the pecking order, dont we?

jlhughes750
02-02-2004, 11:12 AM
Yeah, Derno us well insulated folks will finally have an advantage!!!!!! traction and warmth:)

250RPilot---- come up anyhow and get us some pics...that blows about the mix up(pc'in)....I don't give advise often, remember that.

QuadMatt
02-02-2004, 12:59 PM
So the quads are last now???? That totally sucks!!!!! The track will have one nice deep rut now. Honestly, I thought the bikes would prefer that the quads go first to like clean the track. The quads make nice double grooves in the turns for the bikes.

ANyway, this really messes things up for people who travel some distance to race. I drive 3+ hours from NY. Usually, we would come sat and stay overnite. We would be done with the day by 2 and be home by 6. Now, if the race is at 2:30, after race and trophies, we are out by 5 if lucky, home by 9. And... we may as well drive down sun morning since now there's time, which means driving 7 hours or so that day. I am not happy.

So just to varify, race starts at 2:30????

QuadMatt
02-02-2004, 01:03 PM
WHats up with the Dutchmen website. ANyone know if they have a new address or something. Here is where it used to be;

http://www.flyingdutchmenmc.com/

but now its not to their site.

Derno24
02-02-2004, 02:57 PM
Definitely the later start. Not sure about the time yet. I will know for sure tomorrow.

I am not sure of the web site either.

Snows not the problem...It's the Ice that'll screw you.

Report Cards ahhhh I remember those days very well.

QuadMatt
02-03-2004, 03:15 PM
This rain is the worst we could get. The gound is frozen, so it will not soak up any water. This means puddles. And puddle in the cold is the worst. With luck, the temps will go down and freeze the rain. This means ice. But i think that by 2:15, the sun will have warmed things above freezing, and there will be at least lots of wet snow/mud.

I cant wait!!!!!!

Kilabanshee
02-03-2004, 03:28 PM
Quadmatt what class and what kinda quad are you running. Yeah it said saturday and sunday a hi of 40 soo if it stays like that then maybe the snow will be melted and it will just be really cold and muddy.

Derno,

Regarding the 2 and 4 racing together, is that for all PA series races??

Derno24
02-03-2004, 08:43 PM
Yup all races will be combined 4 and 2 stroke. Should make this a fun year.

Like I said It will be a big line so make sure to at least say high before the start. After the race people tend to leave early if they didn't do well and they aren't as much fun as they are before the race.

250rpilot
02-03-2004, 08:43 PM
someone correct me if i am wrong, but did they do away with blaster class this year?? i didnt see it on the class page on harescrambleracing.com. are the blaster boys being forced to run open C this year?

Derno24
02-03-2004, 08:45 PM
Not that I know of. Ex Kid is the racer in that class and I don't think he was planning on racing with us.

did it say 0-230cc?

250rpilot
02-03-2004, 08:48 PM
i may have missed it, i was looking cuz a friend of mine has been racing that class for 2 years. i did not see 0-230 or blaster anywhere, i will look again...

here is a copy and paste of the class list

1
91-200cc 2 stroke / 91-300cc 4 stroke

2
Open C

3.
Open B

4.
Utility originally equipped with racks

5.
Auto Sport

6.
Vet 30 Plus (Money)

7.
Senior 40 Plus (Money)

8.
Open A (Money)

i guess they will be in 91-200.......missed it the first time

QuadMatt
02-03-2004, 08:54 PM
The lines will be long, too long. Too many guys in each class. 4 str B is often 40 guys. Add the 12 2 stroke and you do the math. This will mean at least two rows.

What about parade lap??

Derno24
02-03-2004, 09:16 PM
They used to have one way back when, but I don't know about that anymore. They haven't the last couple times I have been there.

ex kid
02-04-2004, 05:45 AM
they call our class 0-200 two stroke and 0-300 four stroke. thats the blaster class.... now 300ex's,Z250s, and a few other machines are allowed to run, im expecting to see a few 300EX's.

NEPA250R
02-04-2004, 06:52 AM
Does anyone know what type of condition the race course will be for this race? Should I expect to see a lot snow, slush, ice, etc.? Also, what kind of tires will work good for this type of race? I know it's a studded tire race, but isn't that optional?

Derno24
02-04-2004, 07:13 AM
That seems to be the big question. No one knows for sure. It could be sloppy or icy. Studs are optional, but last year there weren't any that I knew of running them. I think it is more important for the Bikes than the quads.

pineway

last night i jumped in my spring house up to my neck and then ran laps on the practice track in my undy's!!!! I shut the heat off in the house, the familys sleeping at the neihbors house, I've been driving an hour to work all week with the windows down...again in my undys!!! tonight i will attempt to submerge myself in the pond for 1 hour and 15 minutes in intervals. 1minute in the water and 30seconds out with a 45mph wind fan blowing on me, then back in the water for another minute!!!! My doctor says if I live till the weekend that i may have a chance of winning on sunday!!! Am I taking this training to far??? aren't any of u guys sleeping out in the cold just to get ready.... The A class guys usually get together in the morning and we dip our socks, boxers and gloves in the Dman creek, that way we get the cold outta the way before the race, if the frank and beans are already frozen, there will be less worrying about it happening during the race.

It'll be a blast don't sweat it!!just your typicall Dutchmen race....

Derno24
02-04-2004, 03:35 PM
Man I thought I was training hard. I got a bag of ice and every 20 mins I stuff the package in there till they really turn blue. Thaw then repeat.

Kilabanshee
02-04-2004, 06:48 PM
We should get an exriders.com district 6 picture. Lets meet inside the lodge at 1:30 ill have a red fox jersey on and a black and white rebok hat, till the race.

Kilabanshee
02-04-2004, 07:07 PM
IF anyone else has an idea on where to meet at dutchman for a group pick just make a sugestion i think it would be kinda cool to have a little race review and stuff. My x girl jen is gonna be there taking several pictures all around.

02-04-2004, 07:13 PM
No offense, but 1:30 you should probably be checking over your ride one last time. I suggest when we hit the line getting the photo there. You know with your ride in the background.

02-05-2004, 06:49 AM
My buddy and I will be there. I finally talked him into going and my new Razr2's just came in. I trashed one at Budds Creek last month when I hit a tree that had low branches that poked thru the tire. I had to run the last lap with a flat....ended up 9th out of 35. So, I figured I'd buy a set of 20's". The 22's" were a little too big anyway. I usually race 4 stroke B and he races Vet. I hear the district 6 classes have changed a little this year so I may run Vet. We'll be in a blue chevy ext cab with a black haulmark trailer. I have a red EX #71. Derno, I have met you a time or two at Rausch. The first time was when C&D was there and it rained all day. I'll try and find y'all Sunday...you guys are too much with the training thing! The only training I've had is laughing at you guys go back and forth on here! Do you guys know if you need a special card for the Pa. State Series? Later

Derno24
02-05-2004, 07:24 AM
I know who you are. You were at the last Rausch Race?

As for more training regimens. I have been working on the arm pump. I figure the key is repitition. Most people start small and work up. I start big and work down. I start with the 16 oz curls then as I progress the weight decreases. Then as I get to the end I repeat 16 oz and down again. Now if I trained to hard the evening before I start with the 12oz. See the nice thing is I can do this while I am doing my cold training. While I am waiting for the muscle burn to die down I place the weight in the ice. Thus removing the package from the ice. It is quite interesting to see.

Derno24
02-05-2004, 06:42 PM

just wondering if it is possible that they would cancel the Dutchman race. It sounds as if they have it no matter what. I guess I'll call Saturday night or early Sun morning anyway! I think I'll get the 22" Razr2's ready.....looks like I'll need them and an outboard motor hooked up to the grab bar! Do you think the six pack rack grab bar thing would hold a 15 HP Johnson?

how bout it!!!!!!

last year was the first year for the Feb race... about 10 years ago for the opener in March, we had a foot of snow the day before,Luke broke out the dozer and made a "pace lap" around to clear it off.... anyone that got of the track was stuck, it was a blast... I'm bout an hour from the track.. its been raing all night and all day friday... not all the snow is gone but there are huge puddles everywhere. if the rain stop tonight like they say i believe it will freeze up tomorow and not be so messy on sunday.
looking forward to racing again.. cya

Derno24

So JL: figure it to be a frozen ride then. They are calling for 20 degrees sunday. If there are puddles now they will be ice slicks on sunday.

derno, i told you i would be right behind ya!!! you got 20, i got 21!! i think it was you i was runnin with for the last part of the 2nd lap, after that i paked it up....i ran out of tear offs on teh first lap- they all froze together, so when i tore one off, they all came off. made seeing kinda tough!!! then my throttle started to freeze, and was sticking WFO, so i said to heck with it....

250rpilot how come you couldnot get a spot on the line??? I saw you behind me " I was on a red 400ex with alot of junk". Sorry I didnot say hi hope to see you next race. Palmer nice job with the 2nd place finish u should have raced b like i said.

250rpilot
02-08-2004, 06:50 PM
kilabanshee, had i known that was you i would have said hi....
i didnt get a spot cuz i took the parade lap, and when we got back, the line was just about full. there were about 5 of us in second row of c class

Derno24
02-08-2004, 07:11 PM
250rpilot. Why didn't you say hi? The day started out much better than it ended. By the time we got to the 2nd lap I was sooo agrivated. All the screws in the tires were gone and I could stay straight for the life of me. Then Lap 3 chain goes bye-bye.

Kilabanshee
02-08-2004, 07:14 PM
Yeah you where right behind me, Next time ill make sure to say hi! I came out in 11th place thanks to chris borich's help. I ran outa gas in the last lap on the last turn before the barrels Iam pretty sure I was 5th place when my quad totally ran outa gas. Borichs bud ran down and helped me out bye giving me about half a gallon of gas. In the time i got the gas 6 racers passed me soo i came out in 11th place finish. Iam pretty pissed at myself for such a stupid mistake which made me pretty much screw up that whole race.

YZROOSTINYA
02-08-2004, 07:31 PM
killa at some point near the end you were not too far from me. maybe 3 or four guys begind me.

I should have taken first after all what happened. my frends said the guy that won passed me when i was on the side. If I had known the end was right there i would have kept going with outy stopping.

I stopped took a piss. took off my gloves, cleaned my eyes. changed goggles. put my seat on. I kn ew he had to of been behind me.

I came in 8th in the c class. Hey killabanshee...was that you in the water crossing b4 going to the top mx track on the last lap? I saw a guy out there on a yfz with his seat laying behind him also. I didn't run studs...don't know how much of a difference it would've made. I know i had basically no traction anywhere...spun out like 3 or 4 times. I didn't get cold though...was wearing 3 pair of pants 3 sweatshirts and a one piece hunting suit with orange hunting gloves. I had a blast though.

Hey all,

I am kinda pissed. I did the parade lap like an idiot cuz i thought everyone was. I was in front and the guy was like yelling at me to go, so i followed the 3-4 guys who went. Usually, when they did parade laps, you had to do the lap to be in the first row. Well, I thought this and so i did that lap. And even as i watched as most everyone else did not do the lap, that i will be in the front row. Well, I GOT SCREWED! You saw that the parade lappers were in the second row. The one guy who was yellin at me to do the parade lap is tellin me that it was optional and i didnt have to do it. Im like, ok, so i get in the front row. Of course, the front row is full, and nobody is movin. So, i got stuck behind some dude who didnt start first try.

Anyway, it was a long race. 7 laps. My front brake lever froze. SO did my throttle. ANd my left foot and both hands. I was feelin good and i wanted that 5 footer. I got third place tho, which isnt bad, but i wonder wut i may have done if i was in the front row to start.

I said hi to pilot, who i thought was derno on a blue and white r. Anyway, it was a good race. Good to see everyone out there.

quad matt, i was just getting ready to post asking who it was that said hi to me thinking i was derno....i could just barely hear you with the helmet on and quads running, i didnt catch your name quite right, but now i know who you are!

derno, i dont know what you look like, and i thought there were a few dales there, so i wasnt just gonna walk up to everyone with a dale and ask if they were you, lol.

sorry to hear about your luck, there was some major breakdowns happening! my buddy on a blaster was leading blaster class by over 5 minutes, and wasted his top end on lap 3, had to be towed in...the result of the tow-in wasnt pretty, and was some very colorful language flying!! hahaha!

Did you do the parade? I thought that was u in front of me?

250rpilot
02-08-2004, 08:23 PM
yeah, i did, because it was my first race, and obviously my first time at the track, so i wanted to check it out. that proved to be a big mistake.
i was behind a black blaster, with number 14 on the plate, thats my friend trevor.

also, i got to finally meet jason hughes today, congrats on the 3rd place dude!!! was good to meet ya! snapped a few pics of that shiny yfz too on my way past....

Pilot,

Did i see you having like motor trouble during the parade lap? If so i guess you got it figured out before the start.

250rpilot
02-08-2004, 08:33 PM
no motor trouble, but after that first big puddle we hit, my throttle was starting to stick a little, and just kept getting worse. during the race, i had to push it open, then reach around to the bcak of it and push it closed for the next corner......wasnt going to take the chance of hurting myself or others, so i quit

QuadMatt
02-08-2004, 08:51 PM
Yea, my throttle stuck and i was doing the same thing. I came close to bumpin into the guy infront of me a couple times going into turns and having the throttle stick.

My last lap my bike quit, and i thought i was out of gas. This guy hooked me with a little gas and i was off. Well it died again and I looked in the tank. There was gas. I finally figured it out. My tank vent hose got frozen. I had to rip it off to finish the race. That ice was getting into everything. Luckily its warming up tomorro so i can powerwash.

Hey guys, I could really use some help here. Harlen asked me to post a report on the race, but my pictures are rather limited. I would like to include some pics that you guys took. So anyone will to e-mail me some pics would be greatly appreciated. Derno24@Comcast.Net

Quadmatt: I was running the Z today not the Dale. I am waiting on some parts for the Dale. I was the yellow Z with Derno24 on the seat cover. Got to meet some good people today and see some of the regulars too. Fun to be out there, but to be fair the track sucked for a race.

Derno,

Sorry i we didnt meet. I didnt really get much chance to look for you with the parade lap fiasco. I look forward to seeing your report and any pics you get. I dont have any, but i would like to get a pic of my bike before i clean it with the icicles hanging from the fenders. I will send if i get a pic of it. I tried to unload the bike when i got home and it was frozen to the truck. I didnt have the strength to wrestle with it. So the poor thing will be outside tonite. :(

i have a question for everyone. after the first lap or so i stop using my clutch to shift cuz my arm is pumped up. (stock clutch and lever and perch) how many other people do this?

Derno24
02-08-2004, 11:20 PM
Clutch what clutch? I didn't use it unless I was hard in a corner and needed to stop.

YZROOSTINYA
02-09-2004, 06:07 AM
i was in second and third the whole time. the only time I use my clutch is starting off and sometimes downshifting. if your getting arm pum then your holding onto the bars to tight. loosen up and flex your fingers when your riding.

Derno, I have a pick of my head down and you blasting off. I will send them to you later.

Top o' the mornin to y'all. I sure do feel alot better than I did around 4:00 yesterday. I want to first thank the inventors of enclosed trailers and kerosene heaters!!! Hello Derno and congrats Jason Hughes whom I met yesterday on the line through Derno. I ended up 8th in the "B" class after an awful start. I practice starts all the time and have it down....I thought! I think it is the noise of all the other bikes that makes me think mine is started and I take off....but its not started! dummy!! That really hurts a good chance for a hole shot, which really helps in a class that size on a track that messy. I was almost always trying to get around somebody that was blasting me. I wasn't giving any slack and just paid the price! After my roll off's froze up I kept them on till I couldn't see thru...then I had to stop for ???? to get the frozen things off my helmet. Then, the second half of the race was without goggles at all! My poor eyeballs look and feel like someone took them out and played hacky sack with them at the beach and then put them back in!!!!!I think studs were a must for that race in order to finish up front. Jason, did you have them and did you think they really helped you? I talked to the winner of the vet class and he had them and was laughing at us that did not have them! Oh well.....live and learn! It still beats laying around the house watching TV!

Well that was quite an experience for me. A good time though. I finished 14th in Open C, and the other two guys I went with finished 3rd and 4th in Open C. I only spun out about 4 times, got stuck in 1 snow bank, and got hung up on 1 big tree between two different lines. I ran out of roll-offs half way through lap 4 and had to take my goggles off to see, which I really didn't want to do. Congradulations to everyone for just showing up, regardless of how you finished or if you even did, because it took a lot just to show up and tolerate those weather/track conditions.

exVet: Its was great to meet u. sorry, I get kinda focused at the start don't talk to a whole lota people.

To answer your question. NO i did not use studs.. Everyone else in the A class had them.. they helped alot on 2 parts of the track, everywhere else was fine. I wish I would have had studs i may have been able to get 2nd. Borich was checked out in the lead, Bowers was running second, I finished about 15-20 seconds behind Bowers.

Note: everyone that raced yesterday. what got u around the track yesterday is the same thing that will make u faster when its dry(at this track).. throttle control and berm use!! use the berm entering and exiting not just exciting...

I had a blast yesterday, things kinda went my way, planning and pit strategy were awsome. Mark Carman and Ken Tichner hooked me up with pits every other lap. I went all out the first lap, then stopped and put on warm gloves and new goggles right before the barrels that way i could see who was gaining on me.

trevor stout is who i was there with. his dad was timing the class, said on the third lap he was about 5 mins ahead, so i guess give or take a little bit..... trevor was definately in line for that 5 footer, till he wasted his top end. i do know he went smokin past me by about 3 minutes into the race, and i was about 2/3 of the way back in my class.

the guy that won was riding a polaris. He past me when I was on the side. If I would have known where the finish was I cam in first. I took my googles off after the firtst turn. I had a really hard time trying to figure out where I was.

I am not tired. Tower is 10 times harder than that place. You just stay low on the throttle except where it was muddy.

I bet it will be ten times harder when I can get traction. I really thought I was going to tire out. I was more pissed that my carb vent was frozen then anything else. That and I couldn't feel my fingers.

I was surprised more people weren't riding harder.

As far as I am concerned this race is never a harescramble. Just a long course.

Rausch, Jack Frost, and the others are more to my liking.

The Dutchmen is like a long track and not a true harescramble. I am lookin forward to a more woodsy race. Rausch is really good.

Yeah you where alittle skert when i ran cut you off and gave your new rims alittle scratch hah. Yeah well if my quad had like 2,000 dollar suspension I bet ide be good too. Hopefully the switch it around, I think the oppiste way "the way we did it this race" made it alot harder cause the jumps had like double lips and stuff. Hopefully next race my quad just doesnot run outa fuel other then that i think ill do pretty good.

and I have only been riding quad for 1 year. so lick a tittie

dirtbikes are where I shine:huh

maybe when your ready to ditch the school boys and RIDE you might learn SUMPIN'

The last time I raced I landed on a HONDA. Thats why I bought the 400ex. I wanted to put it through the abuse it gave to me.

hence the screen name. My true calling is for the 250, YZ of course.
You will see I will be alot calmer next time around now that I know the deal.

My rear rim ring is bent. musta hit someything. Where is this race at. I will drive.

I think they have a race this sunday at dutchman ill check the schedual and ill give ya a ring. Yeah my first race i was alittle nervous but came out and did a pretty good job. I wanna check my jetting and all and make sure none of my fuel lines are leaking. Well palmer your totall riding yeahs has been like 10 anything from a dirtbike to a crotch rocket. Ive been riding for less then a year and i rip pretty hard. I remember back in the woods you cut the one dude dang man your crazy on the track I think you'de do anything to get another positon higher. Next race we should make a little wager on the holeshot ; )

Thats another thing that had me puzzled. alot of the guys were putting around. I was thinking this is a race right???

I wanted to move up but I was also unsure if there is a "race etiquite " I didnt know about.

who cares now. i TOOK second!!!

Yeah we should hit up another one soon. I sorta cut you off at one point I think. Just so you know its all in fun. But I will def be trying harder next time around for sure.

Palmer we should set up alittle hairescramble up in freeland that would be pretty sick. Well looks like i need some new rims cause when i took it out on the road they seemed to move back and forth slightly and there not stripped. Iam probobly gonna bye some hypers or beadlocks cause iam sick of bying new itps all the time. Wait till i get my rebuilt back shock, +2's, porting, and my board carb then ill show you whats up palmer.

There is no D6 or PA State race at the Dutchmen this weekend 2/15/04. The next D6 race is March 14th.The next PA State round is April 4th.. Is everyone clear about the difference with Pa State and D6.. Also do u guys know there is a Dutchmen points award as well. If the only scrambles u run are at the Dman u can still earn a season end award... If u run the entire D6 schedule u can earn awards for District 6, PA State, Dutchmen, and Foot of the Mountain..4 different points championships.
