Well, Just talked to the Maxxis crew at the track. The Official word is as follows:

Traci Cecco- Overall Morning Winner(congrats Traci)

Pro-Yokley=1/Ballance=2/Smiley=3 and maybe Borich in 4th. They were not exactly sure on that. It is below 40 degrees and the track was extremely rocky. Sounds like it was a good race. Borich got a bad start and played catch up the whole race. Hope this helps.

Just got off the phone... Doug Henke won untility unlimited. Said the track was awful nothing but boulders and shale. He lost 4 rear tires. Said in alot of places if you went off the track there were 3-4 foot rain washed revines.

one of the Balance boys has handguards over his head lights. I thought they just took them off most of the time.

02-01-2004, 12:58 PM
I finished 17th, 2 laps with a rear flat and 1 lap with a flat front on the same side...

I also managed to flip the quad over on me on a hill and was stuck under it in a revene for like 2 minutes before getting out from under it.

Ran in the top 10 the first 2 laps and the 3rd lap was pretty much poop. Dropped back to 17th, started out on the 4th lap and couldn't keep the quad under control anymore. Went back to the pits to change out tires but I had different size fronts and rears which meant i had to change out all 4 tires without any power tools. I said the heck with it and took off my gear..:( I would have only moved up 3 spots if I did run the last lap just because I would have finished 4 laps. Glad I didn't go back out and get abused just for the 3 positions. It was a rough and simi fun track and I sure could tell that I haven't rode in 2 months, I"m very sore today..

I can say that the track would have been A LOT rougher without the new Elka LT kit I installed right before we left. A big thanks to Yann at Elka..
The spider grips also kept the blisters away which seems to be odd, I seen a lot of beat up hands after the race..

Guess I"ll show em what I got in GA.

How did the tech inspections go? Did they test for the sound rule thingie? If so how strict were they about it?

jshtex
02-01-2004, 02:33 PM
They did test for DB... Don't know how strict they were, there were plenty of loud quads running around. At least I didn't see anybody fail and I was parked just down from the tent.

My son got off to a great start in 4 stroke c, got up to 5th at one point, but towards the end of lap one a Kawaski rider jumped off his quad on a hill when he had trouble, then it flipped backwards down onto my sons bars. Broke his keyswitch off and he had trouble starting it from then on. Finally gave up on lap two when the starter quit.....

But we had a good time. Sorry that I didn't get the chance to meet anyone friday nite, we developed some carb trouble during practice so I hauled home for repairs.

02-01-2004, 05:47 PM
I had a little problems with my rear shock then once I got that fixed going into the 3rd lap I threw a chain into my side case....
I hope to get some seat time before FL at Randys and get a better start in round two....
Tested in TX instead of FL this year...:(
Other than that I felt Pretty strong the first lap, just need some seat time. Congrats on all who finished a good race, see ya in FL.

It was a pleasure meeting Chad Duvall (very nice guy ;)

Now on to my story :o This was my first gncc race and lets say I new I was out of shape but not this bad :( I feel like I was hit with a crow bar on every inch of my body. This was some of the roughest terrain I have ever been on rocks galore big up hills with lots of shelf rocks. My starts wasn't very good I kind of backed out of the gas so I could see where I was going. I wasn't doing too bad I had passed a few people one was a girl on a yellow Z and I was gaining on another (I think I got too excited)

Whack hit a tree and put the quad on top of me with the end of the bars coming down on my chest (needles to say I now have a nice bruise) I could not get the 4 wheeler off me I was under it for a couple of minutes as I hear many people passing me finally got it off of me and at that point Harlen goes by (thanks for asking if I was OK). I tried to lift it off its side and had no energy, at this point I was thinking back to the pits and no more racing. I got it back up and on I went I did finish the race I went 4 laps (very long laps)
I finished 7th out of 11 girls.

I have to give a big thanks to all the spectators for when I got stuck (many other times :macho ) they were there to help push my bike.. I had no energy to move my bike off the trees.

In conclusion I had a pretty good time and now realize how out of shape I am ( headed to the hottub).

02-01-2004, 06:48 PM
Wow I thought I had a bad race, but I guess it could've definately been worse. I ran 4 stroke C(16-24) and my dale stalled twice off the line. When I got started I took off and passed 6 or 7 before hitting the woods. By the second lap I had two mean blisters(one on each hand) and the left one busted open and hurt soooo bad everytime I clutch or gripped the bars. I was running 11th when I came around on the second lap and on the third I smacked a tree going downhill and couldn't get it off by myself. I fought it for 6 or 7 minutes and a spectator came by and helped me. By then I was exhausted, but managed a 16th place finish. Not bad considering I too was way out of shape and was barely able to hang on to the bike and I was breaking in brand new boots. Well good luck to everyone next round and I'll see you at FL.

Yeah I saw a few guy's caring TV cameras.

As for the chains breakin, it might be from rider choice, I wouldn't think Duvall or Derisi are still runnin the stocker. Derisi broke a few last year i think. It's not a Yamaha thing.

We run DID X-ring ATV chain, go threw 2 a season, and kick myself on buyin the second one cause the first is still like new. Check out DID page and compare the different chains they make, The atv chain is up to 750cc where a MX chain is only up to 500cc, The strongest you can get is what you need in XC doesn't matter if it costs twice as much. http://www.didchain.com/offrd.html

I don't know about the rest, but Derisi's chain wasn't broke it just came off the rear sprocket.

02-03-2004, 07:21 AM
Derisi's skid plate came off and he bent his sproket. in turn that threw his chain off. Mine screwed up because I didn't tighten somthing good enough. I don't know about chads.

Thanks. Someone told me that the sidewalls of the tires get really torn up when you run the tireballs. It doesn't look like it to me.
Approximately how many miles have you put on those tires?
