250r cylinder - how do you know what year?

cylinder says HB9 and 88 in the sleeve. 246cc.

is this a 86? or 88

I believe both cylinders are the same. The only difference is with the 88 you run a spacer plate on the cylinder. I believe that is correct anyone correct me if im wrong

post a pic of the ports, I can tell by how it looks. to help you out 85/86 has no bridges in intake, 87 has one, 88/89 has two bridges in the intake. also the 85/86 has a much thicker sleeve than the other years. 85 cylinders stock were black

:) the 88-89 cyls are light gray in color if it has a 88 on the bottom of the sleeve it is an 88:macho
