View Full Version : 250r cylinder - how do you know what year?

cylinder says HB9 and 88 in the sleeve. 246cc.

is this a 86? or 88

It has been a few years scince I have worked on a 250r. But the 86/87 were open on the intake or maybe the exhausetside. The 88/89 were bridged. This bridge is on the intake side so that the pins for the rings would not hang up. The bridge is part of the cyclinder that goes from the top of the opening to the bottom on the intake side. The skirt on the bottom of the cyclinders was different on them. The 88/89 was solid and the 86/87 looked like a half moon. Someone needs to conferm this just to make sure if I remember correctly.

Actually 87-89 had bridged intake ports. If the sleeve is stamped 88 then it is an 88. A picture of the intake ports would also be helpful but I really doubt someone would have put an 88 sleeve in a different year cylinder.
