They sent me a 165 Main. I will put this in and start with 3 turns out on the Air Screw. Do I have to move the clip on the needle? Is there anything else I am missing. It's a stock machine other than this mod. I do not want to replace the air filter or remove the lid if possible.
Thanks

the one thing you can do is go buy a kiehin 155 main instead of using that 165. you just won't have as much power with the 165. i would leave the needle in the stock position. besides that, you should be good to go.

so did i. but on a stock bike it seems like a toss up. my jetting didn't actually change much after building it. however i don't know if the airbox lid is removed. in the winter there is no doubt that i prefer my clip in the 4th position. in the summer it is a closer call. with your pipe being your only mod, i would see it runs and if it seems to be doing funny things between 1/8 and 3/4 throttle, go ahead and move the clip down one. good luck

Just took her out for the first ride with the new pipe. sweet sound, nice and loud. I put the 165 main in that HMF sent me and it seems to do very well. It does backfire slightly but not overly bad. I think I might keep everything where it is for the time bieng unless some one posts a better set up.

165 Main, stock clip position, airbox lid on with stock filter, 3 turns out on the Air/Fuel screw, HMF slip_on.

A little Fat but runs good, nice and smooth through all throtle positions.

Any Ideas????????

165 main, with stock filter and air box lid on sounds very rich. I think if you tried it a little leaner, you would see more power.

What would you recommend? Should I go down to a 160 Main, Get a K&N, Modify the lid, Move the clip, adjust my fuel/Air screw? I'm new to all this so any help would be cool. I know there are tons of posts on how to jet but I'm loking for someone with a similar set up.

how you can say thats rich? maybe the jet that came with the pipe is not a kiehn jet? kiehn jets are mesured based off how much flow/ dynojets are based off the size of the whole get your facts straight :blah:

do a plug check with the jet they sent you if it comes out good leave it if its rich go down a size if its a kiehn jet you will se the k next to the # changing the main jet is easy and can be done with the carb on in less than 5 min so just take some tools and plugs and do some plug checking thats the best way to figure it out.

I don't care if it's a Keihin, or dynojet (I know there is a difference), either way, it sounds rich with those numbers. About the only thing your right on is that the only way to really tell is by doing plug chops.

If you know dynojets than you would no that it dosnt sound rich call them your self so you can get your facts strait. I use a 170dj with a slipon, k&n, and no lid my plug is perfect and the bike runs great. so how rich am I running?

Try going a little leaner and I bet you see an increase in power. Then you can tell me how rich you were running. ;)

Also, if you go by the manufacturer's reccomendation on jetting, I will guarntee you that you are running rich. They always err on the rich side!

:huh make some sence please! why would I go leaner if it runs great and the chop tests indicate it is dead on. its not worth getting in a pissing contest with you or anyone else I just heard enough of this 165 sounds rich crap if DJ is mesured totaly differnt who's to say a 165 or 170 is rich without tring it your self. mabey a DJ170 is very similar to the kiehn 155. enough said.;)

I agree it's not worth getting in a pissing contest. I just can't understand when people are jetting, and just stop testing when they "think" their engine is running it's best, without taking the extra step to verify that they have the best possible jetting.

I find it ironic that you would use the signature you do!!
